The movie won the 2013 Saturn Film Award for Best Horror Film.

The movie was celebrated with dozens of nominations and awards from film festivals such as Scream, MTV Movie, Empire and others. At a cost of about $24 million, the movie made a profit of over $100 million. The success of the story necessitated the filming of a sequel. In 2019, the sequel "Zombieland: Double Tap" was released, which retained the cast of the first part.
