"Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence!" is an Anglo—Japanese film about a prisoner of war camp during World War II. Through the differences in Western and Eastern culture, we are forced to think about such eternal concepts as honor and cowardice, life and death, hatred and love. David Bowie played Major Jack Sellers in it, a dedicated pacifist rebel. It is also Takeshi Kitano's first English-language film.
