I hope for a good fairy tale, the film does not seem too pretentious. One moment is confusing that according to the trailer, the heroine of Ariana Grande was made some kind of fool or something... Such are the first feelings. Well, the appearance is a little pale.
It's cool that we shot two parts at once and we'll see the sequel next year. There remains only one question: will we wait for the second part after watching the first one?

Does anyone know when it will be released in Russia (and whether it will be released)
They write everywhere that it's today, but I still haven't found anything on the posters anywhere🥲🥲

It turned out well, although without enthusiasm. The rooms are well done, bright and the story of friendship is touching. But, in general, it didn't really catch on. And it's a pity that this is only half the story. I found out about it just before the session. Well, we are waiting for the continuation

In general, not bad. I liked it. Everything is done very beautifully. The costumes, scenery and actors are beautiful. It was nice to see Indina Menzel. I remember her from the TV series"Glee". It made me laugh when the teacher constantly confused Galinda's name, and she decided to change it. But after that, the Wizard mispronounced her name again. That's why I stabbed her.Or it was also interesting to see what was before the main story that we know. The way the idea to lay the road out of Yellow Brick was born. How monkeys got wings. And how Elfaba became an evil witch. From which we are given to understand that every thief hides an unhappy and wounded soul.Or, in general, it's worth a look.

But there's something I didn't like... namely the voice acting of songs. I want to hear the original. The meaning of the song can also be conveyed through subtitles. The atmosphere of the film is lost with this dubbing. "Congratulations "at first my ear cut a lot, but then I realized that this is их, it seems, a" special " dialect. Because they cover all the words. So goodbye.I also don't really understand why Glinda/Galinda was made in the image of such an easy-thinking Fool. As they say: "that's where it came from?». After all, it doesn't seem to be like this in a fairy tale. I also didn't like it when Bock wanted to tell Nessarosa that he only invited her at Glinda/Galinda's request and that he didn't have feelings, but suddenly changed his mind when he saw Glinda/Galinda kissing Fiero. I realized that nothing was shining for him, and he suddenly decided not to miss the chance at least with someone or it was just not pleasant somehow.…

By the way, a new adaptation is coming soon. "The Wizard of Emerald City. Yellow Brick Road", which will be released on January 1, 2025. And even there will be a continuation - "The Wizard of Emerald City. The evil witch " is scheduled for 2026.

I didn't expect anything from the film, so I didn't get any special disappointment. it turned out to be a good plot. somewhere it is delayed, but the picture is good - bright, beautiful, the choreography and scenery are shown with dignity. for me, alas, the film does not look like a masterpiece and I hardly want to review it someday. However, he will definitely gather his fanbase.
Yes, and he's kind of being moved to the Oscar, so xs.

I went to the cinema for this musical, and was pleasantly delighted with what I saw. Yes, for those who do not like when they "sing a lot" and do not particularly like the genre of musicals / film adaptations of Broadway productions, it is better to pass by. I, in turn, adore this direction in cinema, and add "Wicked:Charodiyka" to the list of favorite memorable films! “Wizard of Oz” is not my favorite movie universe, but it just so happened that the cult film and other adaptations of the book were viewed a long time ago, not without interest))) Ariana and Cynthia are divine, their roles are perfect for them, all the musical numbers with them are wonderful. As a result, it turned out to be a colorful and fascinating film, with an interesting interpretation of a long-known plot✨
Now it remains to look forward to part 2 💚

The perfect adaptation of a Broadway production. Everything was exactly as I imagined during the long years of waiting for the film adaptation of one of the best musicals of our time.

The cast is gorgeous, everyone is in their place. Goldblum as Goodwin is something. Grande plays off Glinda's quirkiness for 100 points without overplaying a bit. It's like all the Broadway Glinds came together in one person. Cynthia in the role of Elphaba is one of the most advantageous options. She plays great, both in movies and on Broadway, and her voice is incredibly strong. Well, a 100% jackpot.

The director in the adaptation treated the original production with all respect. Nothing has been redone, all the scenes have been abandoned. There is a cameo by Idina and Kristin and it fits very well into the tape. Well, you can't call it anything other than a gift for musical lovers.

I'm really looking forward to part 2, I think they will already add original scenes and most likely even original songs, since act 2 of the musical is almost half shorter than Act 1.

People, I highly recommend watching the movie. Friends who did not know about the existence of the musical said that the film was good, it seemed a little long to them, but I think this is due to the unaccustomed viewing of this genre.

I didn't expect anything outstanding, but I really liked it! I've never been a fan of either Grande or Erivo, but how cool they got into the role! Erivo sings in such a way that it gives you goosebumps, especially at the end of the film - to the point of tears. Amazing movie, I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

Initially, I wasn't going to watch this movie at all, because when I looked at any frame or poster from it, my "soy trigger" sounded the alarm. Apparently, this was due to the fact that the black actress Cynthia Erivo was cast in the role of Elphaba, even though she was painted green. But the insanely high critical and audience ratings, multiple awards, and rave reviews from directors like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas convinced me to watch it.

The film is really quite inclusive, but actually Cynthia Erivo was a great fit for this role because, as it turns out, she sings great. Her voice is very well combined with the voice of Ariana Grande, who plays Glinda here, so their joint songs turned out to be the coolest. The film was generally pleased with the excellent songs, which are beautifully sung and evoke emotions. But I need to clarify that I watched it in the original with subtitles, which I advise you to do. They say that the dubbing of the songs is not so good.

All in all, unexpectedly, it turned out to be a very enjoyable film. Despite the fact that it runs for 3 hours, it was interesting for me to watch it. And although this is only the first act, and there will be a sequel at the end of 2025, the film does not feel like the plot was abruptly cut short. As the authors correctly noted, the song "Defying Gravity" is so powerful that it's as if the curtain should come down after it, because the next scene will no longer be perceived normally without a break. I know that most Russians can't stand musicals, but if you're someone who loves them, then you definitely should watch this movie.

I unexpectedly really liked the movie! And although I don't really like musicals, everything was in moderation here, the songs are cool, Cynthia sings perfectly, to the point of tears at the end🙌🏼

10 out of 10💚💚💚 for musicals lovers like me, I definitely recommend it!! There are so many emotions after watching that I don't even know how to put all my thoughts together. I will really look forward to the sequel. Cynthia and Ariana are beautiful, but when Jonathan Bailey appeared (hello to the Bridgerton fans) - I almost died🥵🥵🥵 He's so good here🫠🫠🫠🫠

Actually, it is not surprising that the film is being so actively promoted in the West, especially in the USA. On the other hand, this is almost one of their main national fairy tales (in terms of the popularity of a children's book by a local author specifically in the country). Original, fanfiction, adaptations and variations, musicals and film adaptations, many, many, many things. Therefore, it is not surprising. So is inclusivity. The Little Mermaid bombarded me like many others, but it seems to be fine here, especially since a film based on the adaptation of Volkov is being released for us, before watching which I took up this film, and then let them do what they want. And it turned out well, Erivo really fit in vocally one hundred percent (I watched with two tracks and switched the songs to the original). As a musical, it was good, although it would not eventually displace the favorites in my personal top of the genre. I'll watch the sequel.

A good film adaptation of the Broadway original. John M. Chu has faithfully recreated the fairyland of Oz. The use of computer graphics is noticeable in some places, but the large-scale decorations built in reality are impressive. It's true that you can get visual pleasure from the Emerald City – at least here you can feel the soul of the authors and the desire to do well. Considering how many mediocre Hollywood film adaptations the world has seen in recent years, this is doubly a miracle. I think it would not be superfluous to say that it is recommended to watch and listen to "Evil" in the original with subtitles, because any other dubbing will obviously kill all the value.

Broadway musical experts, can anyone tell me how much the film adaptation repeats or deviates from the plot?
It's just that my meager imagination doesn't have enough to imagine how to show some episodes from the film on stage, so I immediately wondered if they were in the musical.
And so, of course, it's very, very good. The actress is a miracle (as Grande played out some moments, a smile involuntarily appeared on her face), the story is interesting (although it already seems a little banal, because she was inspired by more modern projects) It was a bit heavy due to too much overload of actions, songs and colors, but it solved the 2 p.m. viewing schedule. We are waiting for the second part!

@vk202273: I would say that the film complements the musical, making the characters and the story more voluminous. Some numbers were expanded, some scenes without songs were added. The film focuses more on the dramatic component of the story than on comedy, but the humor of the musical has been preserved. One new song has been added, which explains the mythology.

@vk202273: the film completely repeated all the scenes from the musical, only a scene from Elfaba's childhood, a scene in the Emerald City during the performance of the artists (?) were added. when they were telling the story of Goodwin and short 10-15 second shots with new views/locations, because in the early 00s such diversity would have been impossible to portray on one scene. Well, the magic of cinema itself allowed the scenes from the musical to be played more extensively in terms of timing, but I think it's already obvious.

I recommend watching it in the original, because the vocals are simply excellent, I've been crying a couple of times. I've been waiting for the film since Ariana's announcement in the cast, I've been following her work for a long time, and my expectations have been fulfilled! Fans of musicals will definitely like it.

It's Brilliant! To show the story as it is, there is something truly unique, human, and vital in this story... When supposedly magicians hide real geniuses behind their backs, they use other people's merits for the sake of power! Oh, how human that is...

Positive
1) Costumes
2) the acting, I really liked the main character, I was surprised even by myself
3) graphics
Minuses
1) the songs and dances are all rewound, hesitating to wind up boring, uninteresting, monotonous and unnecessary
2) the plot is like a patchwork, sometimes everything just changes dramatically
3) Wednesday came out earlier and a lot of things echoed for me and it was strange to watch as if for something similar
4) with animals, I don't understand the motivation plot.
5) Cut out half of the heroes. Why do you need a sister and her boyfriend to include a disabled person in the plot?
6) The video added inclusivity catches the eye

In general, it's a strange feeling, I like the picture and the acting, but everything else is blocked out and stopped in the middle, like our film adaptation and you're like what? is that all? such a plot? then it turns out the second part will be. You need to be able to divide paintings all the same, but now it has begun, you don't need to. would I throw out unnecessary lines in the songs and everything would fit into the movie, it would be tight and interesting

@spartak25: 1) It's a musical. What did you expect from the musical? That there will only be an opening and ending of the songs?
3) Evil came out much earlier than Wednesday.
5) The sister will play a role in the second part.

As in the original musical, which has 2 acts, the film also has 2 parts. The acts are divided correctly. Here's the climax. Angry became Angry. Sit out the intermission and you will continue.

It's magical! Everything is awesome, from the music to the essence. In general (and by and large), not everything is as straightforward as it seems at first glance. Good is not so good, and evil may not be evil at all, but the current agenda of the local dictator.

The animation of animals here is decent, I'm even upset that they were given so little time here, even though their storyline will become the main one later. The topic of skin color will not be the most central, but rather how discrimination from below is most often imitated from above, and how we do not notice how we put labels on someone else's whim and do not look deeper into the phenomenon of the problem. What everyone suffers from.

I avoid musicals for the most part, but everything was awesome here, the songs rocked, even though I'm a fan of aggressive rap and rock, but all these pop motifs are made with a soul, and the final song from the production and graphics to the chords and vocals filled my soul with great positivity. I was ready to fly on a broom myself 🧙🏼♀️🧹

The way it's shot, dear mom, it's just that from a pixel centimeter to a grimm, everything is chic, princesses, balls, magical attraction, not "Harry Potter", but there's something nearby. Everything is very puberty-melancholic and colorful, I love it, and you can see how everything is designed so that boys in childhood would feel comfortable perceiving the world here. We have invested an immense soul, although the minor storylines and timing have slightly lowered the overall score, just like a successful project, I am waiting for the sequel, keeping in mind the cons and pros.

As a child, I loved "Adventures in the Emerald City" (cartoon 1999). I also watched it on tape)
I liked the movie as a whole. A villain is not the villain they make him out to be. It's a shame for Elphaba, of course.
Glinda/ Galinda is painfully stupid. It's a little weird.
It's nice that Broadway's Wicked performers, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, were invited to play cameo roles in the film.
I'll be waiting for the sequel)

I sat down to watch it cautiously, because it was almost three o'clock, and then there was the musical, and then there was inclusivity... but I liked it. Now I'm waiting for the second part.

The decoration is my homage. It's a very beautiful movie, a vivid picture, and rousing musical numbers. Thank you for hiring really professional singers. I watched it in the original with subtitles and it was magical. The girls also did a decent job with the acting task, I especially liked the comedic image of Ariana Grande. It's just her, 100%.

And I also spent the whole movie thinking about how nasty Galinda is. She's trying to be good, but it's just for show. Galinda doesn't care about anyone but herself, she just wants everyone to consider her the best.
Practically Umbridge in her youth. The same pink is sugary in appearance, but rotten inside.

After Cats, I thought it was a bad idea to film classic Broadway musicals. Either you have to muddy projects from scratch, like the Moulin Rouge or La La Land, or you don't have to get out of harm's way anymore. It turned out that I was wrong. Wicked is quite a good transfer of Broadway classics to the big screen with all these dolby visions and even more dolby surrounds. The acting is not exactly waaaaah, but it's quite enjoyable. To be honest, I didn't even expect such a serious approach from Grande. The picture is elegant, the choreography is cool, and self-irony is available, so it looks easy and not stressful. Test.

Well, I don't know, I personally liked it. They sing and dance beautifully, the mass scenes are just fire. I read that they were filming in the scenery, the green screen was not used much, and this news just delighted me with the work done. Ariana Grande personally gives me the impression of a doll unencumbered by intelligence, and this image in the film suits her very well.that's how she looks organic in it. Cynthia Erivo is so beautiful, even green, and what a prince is, then a prince..Personally, I love Bailey from Bridgerton immensely and was glad to see him here. Frock coats, doublets, and so on look really good on him..

I liked it very much. It's always interesting to see the villain's story in order to understand what happened, how did he come to what he came to?

I'm only familiar with the original story in general terms, and I've also watched several different adaptations.

Definitely waiting for the 2nd part
I'm very sorry for the animals, I don't understand how you can infringe on creatures if you're on the same intellectual level.

The Wizard of Oz is even more finished than in other adaptations, I would like El Faba to win, but this story has a different ending (

The costumes and choreography in the film are simply amazing in their beauty. The marketing was just crazy, just like the Barbie movie (2023), and the scandal surrounding Ariana Grande added to the desire to see this work). Although there were a lot of subpoenas, it didn't really catch my eye. The graphics are of course just something with something (in a good way )! I liked that they didn't re-record the songs in the dubbing, but left them in the original, as they are really good. In general, I'm waiting for the sequel, because the film has an open ending, and also in the most interesting place!
