Overview
American car designer Carroll Shelby and the British-born driver Ken Miles work together to battle corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race car for Ford Motor Company and take on the dominating race cars of Enzo Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France in 1966.

Why Miles is a pest is also unclear. The interview mentions that he fought on the fronts of the Second World War, but this does not affect the plot in any way. Shelby is not needed for anything at all - he turned out to be a mediocre partner in the end. That is, it is clear what these two experienced in the real story, but for the film these are functions, not personalities. Like Miles's faceless wife, like his typical child. Even Ford, with one of his monologues in the cabin of a new car about his father, became more voluminous than the characters who are shown, sorry, two and a half hours combined. Therefore, until the final competition, Miles and Shelby evoke a minimum of sympathy and response. However, the 24 hours of Lehman in 1966 were shot so cool that, in principle, you forget about some miscalculations of the screenwriters. Of course, this is not Formula 1 with its twisty turns, but technically shooting a race on a circular track is beyond praise. You naturally squeeze into the chair. Although there are some flaws here too. I won't reveal all the cards (for example, I didn't know about this story myself), but on the emotional side, Ford vs. Ferrari and in the final loses to the same Race, which was interesting to watch, first of all, because it It was flavored with the connection of antagonists, the wild enmity and mutual respect of Niki Lauda and James Hunt. Here, Miles, who, firstly, is not disclosed himself, but rather acts as a tool in the hands of managers, also opposes not a specific person, but a dummy embodying the desires from the other side of the barricades. Somewhere out there, Mangold probably had a desire to show how people in love with their business are fighting with a soulless machine, while at the same time forging businessmen into creators, but something did not work out. In general, Ford vs. Ferrari is a formulaic sports drama, which, nevertheless, causes puppy delight in the second half, and for this it is not necessary to love and understand cars. Such curious cases.
In general, although the picture is beautiful, the film, in my opinion, turned out to be quite crumpled - neither the stories of the characters (for example, Miles is a Briton who has already participated in Le Mans), nor the history of the car (based on the British Lola GT) are particularly disclosed, although they are shown more often than the rest - it's like the final a series of the series about the racer Ken Miles. From Ford there are only sticks in the wheels, and from Ferrari the name.
Bairum. I also want to note that Christian Bale is a legend, an excellent actor, to be honest, I didn't even recognize him at first. The man is so different in every role, like a chameleon, that you can't even recognize him. It's just a delight
to watch the movie "Race" next to him.
I started watching the movie in a bad mood and thought I wouldn't like it, but in the end it turned out to be much better than the recent Formula 1 movie. Even though I gave him 7 points for shooting. But there was no script there. Here we have a working story and good characters. After the finale, the film somehow feels completely different. It's a good movie. 8 out of 10 Batmobiles.
