I remember how much I was impressed when watching Akira in the cinema (in 1990, I was only 12 years old at the time), it was radically different in aesthetics from everything that was then.
animation is my homage. It's just great for ‘88. It was my first time watching this anime (I hadn't read the manga before either) and now I understand why it's considered iconic.
We also noticed the style of the 80s, when personality and character were attractive - there is not a single character in anime that is "conventionally beautiful" by modern standards, this makes them so alive, so real. The fashion is terrible, but the case is when the main thing in a person is not tuning and packaging.
And the plot is frighteningly relevant - old grandfathers on pills in the government are doing shit because of which an entire state is killed every 30 years, nameless heroes die for it is unclear why and for what, crowds of protesters create only noise and do not change anything in fact, a couple of individual people understand the deep essence of what is happening, but still the war, all the same, ruin, something good awaits us for sure in the future, but not in ours, someday, one day, thousands of light years away.
Beautiful anime, and what a picture, animation... Super
