Well, of course, for 68, the film was probably a bomb. But I, in 2022, with inflated expectations, found the film boring.

I agree with the comments above. A score below 4 is weird. The film is a brilliant classic! Well, it is fundamentally wrong to compare it with a modern Interstellar, for example.

I give one star exclusively for innovative special effects. Remove them and there will be nothing left. The swing at a certain "deep meaning " failed. May Kubrick's fans forgive me, but I never saw his genius in any of his films.

By the way, has anyone noticed how much time from the entire timekeeping it takes to show cosmic landscapes?

I don't understand this movie. I tried several times. The coolest thing about it is the soundtrack.

For 2024, the hat is full, I somehow finished it, boring tedium, with a good picture - 5 out of 10. In 1968, the top that people looked at with their mouths open - 15 out of 10 )

To be honest, the Space Odyssey was so deeply ingrained in popular culture that I had expectations.. strange. I strongly doubted that I would master the film, that I would understand it. I thought Kubrick's creation would be too brilliant for me. Of course, due to the numerous memes, references, allusions and everything else that has long turned into kitsch, while watching, you can take the pose of Rick Dalton and without ceasing to point at the monitor with your finger, noticing the sources of all of the above. But in fact, you don't need to be a cinephile fanatic, a snob critic, or an admirer of everything arthouse to enjoy watching. After all, this is a classic solid sci-fi, the forerunner of all slowburns and neo-horrors, an excellent thriller and just a visual-auditory feast. You can consider the film boring, pretentious, overrated, but its significance and influence cannot be overestimated for sure. It takes your breath away

If you watched "A Space Odyssey" and didn't understand anything, then that's fine. At least that's what artificial intelligence thinks.

I mastered this opus in two approaches. And both times, the incredible delight of the visual component was shattered by the closing eyes in an effort to fall asleep.

To be honest, I don't like it when some kind of art product is made in order to show off. And then brag that it's not for everyone. And only a select few have ways to comprehend greatness.

But I still gave the film 7 out of 10 (which is a good rating) because:
1. Style style style. How beautiful it still looks
2. Camera work. Camera angles. It was obviously not filmed in those years.
3. The stargate scene was created manually. There was no computer back then. And if it's too weak in terms of content. Then, according to the visual, it's a cannon bomb. Unfortunately, I did not find a photo of the backstage as it was created. But it was interesting to read.
4. A combination of sound and visual. In the Russian dubbing, watch the sound with subtitles. This is again the case when there is almost no conversation in the film. And the sound work here is wow.
From a technical point of view, it looks fantastic for 1968. Here I take off my hat.

Well, that is, filmmakers should familiarize themselves with this work. It's like learning math. But this lesson will not be so easy and simple.
