The scene in which the Petty and the maniac shout "Dude!" at each other on the phone parodies the well-known Budweiser beer commercial "Whassup?", which was often broadcast on television at that time. This series of commercials has become one of the most popular Internet memes, and, in addition to the "Scary Movie", has been repeatedly parodied in the web series "Annoying Orange", as well as a number of sitcoms.
