Television producer by day, CIA assassin by night, Chuck Barris was recruited by the CIA at the height of his TV career and trained to become a covert operative. This is a very non-trivial plot - a Jewish screenwriter writes about a Jewish TV producer, but it's all shot by a completely European director. And besides, it's all about a Jew who, oddly enough, is an anti-communist. A rarity for Hollywood.
The beginning of the film is quite gray, prosaic, shows a loser and really pulls everything off. But this part needs to be waited out, it's done for contrast. Then the show begins... how do I choose something similar? It's like if the Cohens had a third brother.
This is great, smart humor, detective noir, passionate women and 007-only without going into the style of Austin Powers. An American shield and a sword that you can't stop laughing at.
