The movie is wonderful
Although it should work well as a movie for queer teenagers going through their first love and self-acceptance, it turns out to be too narrow.
I would especially like to mention the performance of the actor playing the role of Elias. Sometimes he caused irritation and dislike. Instead of arousing empathy, he was rather repulsive, and this, of course, affected the overall perception of the painting. As a result, the film failed to convey the emotion and depth that the creators may have originally intended.
There are criminally few LGBT-themed films with young teenagers, so I was glad to see another representative of it, because they rarely come across. Yes, the psychology of the characters is not very deep here, or the conflicts are pushed to the limit, but it seems to me that this was done specifically taking into account the young age. The outbursts of anger that occurred in Elias are understandable, but it would be strange if a 14-year-old boy who fell in love for the first time was generally thinking deeply about something. But the boys in the lead roles are cute and look like someone you might meet somewhere in your neighborhood. In general, everything looked natural!
And a funny fact: for the first 20 minutes of the movie, I was sure that Elias and Valerie were brother and sister, so I was blown away when his parents mentioned that he had a girlfriend and I was like, what? Wasn't that a sister? It's just that the actors are very similar!
