Overview

As the sole survivor of a horrendous and rather mysterious accident, teenage Mitsuko's day is off to a bad start. An unstoppable force of nature, a doomed field trip, and a strange case of amnesia easily coexist in a bizarre parallel universe, where a desperate Mitsuko is always on the run from something inexplicable, intangible, and utterly deadly. However, amid piles of fresh corpses, mounds of scorching bullet shells, and rivulets of fragrant adolescent blood, Mitsuko must fight to stay alive, before her already messed-up day becomes even stranger. But one question still remains: who or what is the enemy?

This film is more like an arthouse social drama disguised as a typical bloody horror movie. The main character gets into one crazy nightmare, then another, and all these are pretty obvious metaphors. Yes, in general, the author does not hide his message much, this time Sion Sono is much more straightforward than usual.
In general, the picture is quite interesting, and even if you don't really think about the meaning, it is quite possible to get some pleasure from watching, since there are relatively good special effects, sometimes a very beautiful and stylish visual range, and the musical accompaniment is very atmospheric. And you can also note the good camerawork.

I liked the epic beginning, but with the wedding plot, it went crazy. As if the author had a great idea, but at the moment he smoked something and flew somewhere wrong.šŸ˜†šŸ˜… But for two scenes (on the bus and in the school classroom), I like it.šŸ‘šŸ»

@RinaAri: In fact, the author touches on the topic of segregation of women in Japanese society, disguising it all under a thrash horror movie, so that most of the game happening on the screen is something like metaphors showing what young Japanese girls have to face in real life. Sono generally likes to reveal all sorts of social problems through trash.

@Barnaby: Ahah, he veiled it so well that no one understood anything. I don't know this author at all, and I'm completely unfamiliar with his work. It didn't even occur to me that there was such an important and deep meaning there. How was I supposed to understand that? Well, okay, you've enlightened me, but how will other viewers understand? It's a bit strange for me to talk about some social issues through a horror movie. Because no one takes horror movies seriously. This means that the value of the message is lost. But I understand... he's the author, he sees it that way.šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

@RinaAri: Well, as usual, I was looking for my favorite Japanese thrash and came across, it seems, "Suicide Club" from the same director and also did not understand anything from what I saw) I Googled it, and it turned out that there were all sorts of interesting meanings there) So when I watched this movie, I already knew a little bit what to expect) And so, of course, you can't figure it out, especially without knowledge of Japanese culture.
