At the same time, the picture sorely lacks the integrity of the narrative. Wagner Moura's character is often surrounded by strange people, they talk about something, and it's generally difficult to figure out what it's about.
Of course, I would not give awards to a Secret Agent who is mainly for a Brazilian audience, but this is a clear candidate for the Oscar for best foreign film, and Wagner Moura has already won the Golden Globe for Best Actor, although in Narco he played Pablo Escobar much cooler and did not receive anything for it.
Well, of course, it could have been shorter.
But Wagner Moura is not bad, especially when he is already playing his son in the present, and well, you believe that this is another person.
Well, the scene where the "refugees" gathered for a joint evening is very pleasant.
The ending is also great.
Maybe you can finally look at the jaws...
Well, the way Armando's fate was revealed through a newspaper article..
Oh, I understand Brazil is often fucked up. The film doesn't seem to be based on real events, but it's hard to believe that such a thing could happen. It's interesting how this film is perceived if you know the history of Brazil from the time shown..
almost all the time, I felt like I was at a distance — I was following the characters, the conversations, all this political and historical background, I understood what he was leading to, but emotionally I never connected to the end. It's like I understand the scale, I see the intent, but the movie seemed to keep me at a distance.
but the scenes in the house are my favorites (and the scenes of Armando and his son are also very cute), Don Sebastian and all the residents brought so much warmth and life to the film that it really "earned" for me there. these moments seemed to be the most lively and cozy — in contrast to everything that was happening outside. sometimes I found myself thinking that I wanted the film to stay there longer.
as a result, I have very mixed feelings. I can't say that I didn't like him — he obviously has a lot of care, strong work by the actors, and a thoughtful world. But I didn't have that emotional connection that everyone is talking about. maybe this is one of those movies that catches up later — it just hasn't happened to me yet.
The film is heavy, it is necessary to approach the viewing. And know the history of Brazil.
I and many others have failed. But he's obviously good, we just didn't get it.
