Well... I read the novel and was unhappy with the film adaptation)..
There's so much mess and confusion in the movie... There is a lot of excess and little that could be deservedly shown. I didn't have enough details, like, say, "comments" from the author (Papillon himself) on top of some scenes – how he measured time while in solitary, how and what happened to him on the island with the Indians, why he and Degas were unguarded on Devil's Island. For the viewer who watches this movie separately from the book, it seems to me that this was not enough.
To be honest, I didn't like that "Moth" was translated so literally, maybe I'm just used to the way Henri was called in the book, but "Moth" sounds creepy, imho. + when the main character was called "Papi" for short, the intentions and relationships with this or that hero were immediately clear.
I liked the visual of the film and the final scene, when Papillon flew to France to leave his memoirs.
I'll watch the first film adaptation in a couple of days, maybe tomorrow, and I'll definitely leave my opinion there too..
An inspiring live movie 🤍
I can say that I missed the ellipsis from GG, how he felt and how he lived, because it's a little unclear why he was trying so hard and for what... to prove that he was able to get out? And Gle was in solitary confinement, as if there wasn't enough history there, as if the story flashed by quickly...
In general, the film is tense at the end.
