Overview
Deep within the mysterious Arboria Institute, a disturbed and beautiful girl is held captive by a doctor in search of inner peace. Her mind controlled by a sinister technology. Silently, she waits for her next session with deranged therapist Dr. Barry Nyle. If she hopes to escape, she must journey through the darkest reaches of The Institute, but Nyle wonʼt easily part with his most gifted and dangerous creation.

You know, it's always the main event of my day.
I was finally convinced that Cosmatos' work was not mine. He is without a doubt a master at creating concise, frighteningly beautiful images that, combined with electronic music, turn watching his films into a special unusual experience, and the stories he tells often touch on themes of human interaction with something from the Outside, combining this with issues of violence, science and religion. It's all interesting and beautiful, yes.
But still, I don't like his films. I don't like their excessive contrast, constant flirting with the use of various substances to expand boundaries, and I don't like their prolonged timing. If The Viewing looked just great, fortunately it lasted no more than an hour, then from Beyond the Black Rainbow and Mandy you just physically get so tired that your head starts to hurt, Cosmatos really lacks restraint in his games with light, sound and color.
But it's definitely worth getting to know this director at least once, the strangeness of his creations pays for everything else.
