Overview
College student Lucy and her friends spend their vacation at her family's home in Hawaii, which includes her pet chimpanzee, Ben. However, when Ben contracts rabies after being bitten by a rabid animal, the group must fight for their lives in order to avoid the now-violent chimp.

Rabies can also be picked up by your favorite kind and fluffy creature and become a "monster"
But rabies has a long enough incubation period, and then the Band went berserk somehow)
They've got a lot of blood here. The murder scenes are done spectacularly, and with a low budget, they also look pretty good.
the plot is very mediocre and stupid. and everything is according to the laws of the genre. the chimpanzee is really smarter than everyone else, and everyone else creates a game themselves, exposing themselves and going to his paws.
A young girl named Lucy and her friends are going to Hawaii to visit her mute father, a writer, and her younger sister. And Ben the monkey lives in a gorgeous mansion, who was once raised by Lucy's deceased mother, who cosplayed the scientist from Gorillas in the Fog. And it just so happened that it was on the day of Lucy's arrival that Ben contracted rabies and began to engage in self-mutilation.
No one could describe the film better than old Ash from The Army of Darkness: "Hey, you primitives and primates!". Primitivism is at the forefront here, and the main characters do not arouse much sympathy, although the glamorous faces were obviously placed in the frame.
Actually, it's kind of embarrassing to write a lot about this horror. This is literally King's Cujo, but not about a St. Bernard, but about a chimpanzee. I do not exclude that Johannes Roberts sold the idea to the studio with just such a description. But apart from replacing one rabid animal with another, Roberts did not come up with anything new.
Yes, it's bloody. Yes, the film fulfills the minimum promises. Yes, suspense builds up quite well in several scenes. Yes, the monkey is cool - the actor ran around in a costume, plus animatronics were used, all this does not cause a very realistic feeling, unlike the last parts of Planet of the Apes, but it looks original and achieves a frightening effect. Well, it's not too long, and thanks for that. But it doesn't catch on.
"Well, what did you expect from a horror movie about a killer monkey?" - you may ask. Honestly, a little more thoughtful story, if you can't get me involved with the characters. As you watch it, you can feel the potential of Primate slipping through your fingers by the minute. For some reason, Roberts translates the thought through the mouth of a veterinarian: "There is no rabies in Hawaii!". Yes, that's a fact. So what? What benefits does this information have for the painting? Probably the final plot twist is connected with it, right? A sick mongoose escaped from a secret military laboratory, where everyone has long since died in the best traditions of Danny Boyle. Or was there a shipwreck nearby, sailing from Skull Island and carrying a rat monkey (hello, "Living Dead"!), which began to bite the Hawaiian fauna? But it's not. Roberts just threw it in for some reason and didn't even manage to make any hint of a sequel out of it. Mega-rabies has no effect on those who are bitten. The younger sister, who was bitten, bleeds and bleeds throughout the film, but she still can't bleed. They also seemed to have missed interesting opportunities. The father - played by deaf-mute actor Troy Kotsur, who recently appeared in the miniseries "Black Rabbit" and previously won an Oscar for the drama "CODA" - cannot hear and, in theory, there should be the most intense scenes. But again, no. And that's how the whole movie is unfinished.
Somehow, with each new creation, I like Johannes Roberts less and less. He had some good sequels to "47 meters" and "Strangers," but he's clearly not in the best of times right now. Maybe the failure of his adaptation of Resident Evil had an effect. Or maybe he feels pretty good (and I made it up) and understands that such primitivism of the audience is enough for the eyes - the film has paid off.
Basically, it's a movie about a monkey that kills people. No more, no less.
RATING: 2.5 rabies shots later
I liked the picture the most, it's very beautiful!
The plot is not wow, but it's not bad to watch it once.
