Costumes, landscapes are a bomb.
Those who are waiting for a page-by-page film adaptation are not here. In general, schizophrenia turns out: claims against actors that they are not like in the book, and if they get into the type- what kind of stupidity of the 1840s, people don't behave like that in 2026 😄
Elordi and Alison Oliver (Lynton's sister) have already played with this director, in Saltburn.(brother and sister).
Little Heathcliff was played by an actor from adolescence, I hope he will have quieter roles in the future. Otherwise, it rocks our spectator nervous system.
Last year, Robie released a romcom with Colin Farrell. There's also a big imbalance in the years. And it takes a while to get used to interacting with Elordi on the screen. Jacob is deeper as an actor than she is. Just think about who her movie partners were: Pharrell, Gosling, Elordi, DiCaprio. the cream of acting. And she. Well, a phenomenon with a minus sign for me. I would like to take the skin off the babysitter, in a good way.
And they laughed at the expectations at the very beginning, the movie's screen saver, they thought they would show a coitus scene, but it turned out.
Director Emirald Fennell has managed to distort and trivialize even Emily Bronte's novel, which was quite bold at the time, by making a wild mess of it. I often have to watch disappointing films, including in cinemas, but I can't remember when I was so tormented by the question: "When will this mess finally end?" In general, the film was a complete failure, even the critics did not particularly accept it, although they did everything clearly for them.
I have seen many film adaptations of this work in various forms. all of them were of varying degrees of quality and were stored in my head in different ways. the same film was postponed by absolutely nothing.
I wouldn't say that I expected and believed in him, but at least because of the cast, I wanted to see it.
as a result, well, this.. It looks more like free-style fanfiction with fantasies. Yes, maybe they wanted to modernize and teach in their own way, but as for me, these ideas didn't quite work out.
acting is also controversial. they seem to be trying, but they don't endear themselves in any way and don't cause any emotions. and yes, there is absolutely no chemistry, especially passion.
maybe they were trying to give more ideas of some kind of insane attraction and inner torment, but I don't.
I can only praise the really beautiful visual and the work of the operator. It wasn't bad in places, it was so pleasing to the eye.
I've never seen so much heaped up crap, disgust, and hypersexuality before.. And I've seen a lot of crappy and arthouse movies.
It was necessary to try very hard to distort the plot of the book so much.
But even without taking into account the fact that this is a film adaptation (or "interpretation") of the book, this is a disgusting film.
The chemistry between the characters is zero, now it's clear why the actors tried to portray attraction between themselves during the film's promotion (also unsuccessfully).
All these near-arthouse techniques do not cause any emotions except disgust and cringe. The same goes for the bed scenes. I'm not a prude, but this movie is like it was shot by teenagers with sperm poisoning and a bunch of scenes with masturbation and copulation..
I hope that the actors were at least well paid..
The only thing that looked bad in my opinion was Katherine's room.
But it's empty.
You don't believe it from about 10 minutes, as soon as they stop being children.
Absolutely unhealthy abusive relationships between literally every character in the picture. This may be romantic, in the context of love from childhood to the grave, but otherwise, everyone needs to have their head treated.
Kirin's reasoning that she needs to marry Edgar in order to support her family looks somewhat delusional regarding the fact that she supported only herself, her father, and indirectly her maid with this relationship.
It looks more like an attempt at self-persuasion.
Especially if Edgar's father's money was completely mowed down, because he scored even more on everything, just drank and played
The fact that the guy got so burned out that he left home as a homeless man, and returned 5 years later as a rich uncle who bought the estate and did not work, looks fabulous for that period of time (and for anyone, in general)
Alison Oliver's character, Isabella, is the main mystery of the film for me. She was willing to do anything for sex, and she seemed to like it very much. All the suffering, humiliation, loss of comfort, dignity, even freedom in some way. Also from a man who divides you by zero. It would have been understandable if she had suffered for him for years, as he had suffered for Katherine, but this was not the case. It wasn't shown. That's why you don't believe it at all.
This film is not about love, but about unhealthy relationships between everyone and everyone, wrapped in a wrapper of the now-beloved theme of sexuality and passion.
In general, the film is not about love, but about the toxic relationship of everyone with everyone. I cried at the end of Heathcliff's monologue💔
I want to read the book itself and get to know the whole picture.
Insanely beautiful scenery and costumes, but some solutions
Perhaps it looks better in isolation from the work, I don't know.
I still didn't understand why some people were crying at the end, because the adult actors had no desire to play the feelings at all. Robbie and Elordi are bad together
I was pleased with the actor from the "Transitional Age", who played little Heathcliff for the first ~ 15 minutes of the film and the work of the environment artist. The locations where the film was shot are very picturesque and would have conveyed the atmosphere of the original work well.
Well, maybe Saltburn fans will admire metaphors again for the sake of metaphors in this movie, but I don't recommend it to ordinary people.
Right now, the focus in movies is probably more on entertainment than spirituality, which is probably why this is being filmed. The picture, the characters, are beautiful, there's nothing to say, but love is artificial.
It's a pity, I really like the previous Emirald Fennel films. I don't think it was a complete failure, but I certainly wanted more.
Well, for some reason, I personally only felt the chemistry between them in some moments. Well, by the way, I didn't cry at the end, as many people said. I was obviously crying, but that's all, it was true that I had goosebumps, it was just very sad. There are also such disturbing parallels. In general, I recommend it to fans of this kind, I have not read the book, and they say that the film is completely different from the book, but I really want to read it)
