Until I read the original novel, it seemed strange to me that people would consider such a story a great classic. Now I know that the authors of the film have downplayed the genre from existential Gothic horror to a simple horror film, where a person does not become like the creator and loses everything that is dear to him, but simply plays with the biology of the human body in the spirit of a Dog's heart. It turned out to be very meme-like, but extremely flat.
