In the book, the megazombi presented " were intelligent vampires who did not lose their mind, speech, and created a new society.Even gg's infected friend visited him every evening near the house, though he wanted to lure him out and devour him. If you look at the vampires (in the book), the real monster for them was gg (Robert Neville) because he came in the morning when they were sleeping in their house and killed them and their children. It was like the evolution of all mankind, a new species. Of course, this evolution was forced without choice, but this is also the main meaning of the work written in the book. It shows how you can't go against the majority and if you don't want to be like them, they'll kill you.

The ending is just yeah... even considering that the movie is very different from the book, it turned out to be too crazy. While the movie was about surviving alone, it was cool and interesting, but the second half... the director seemed to remember that the money was given only for the film, not for the series, and decided to finish everything as soon as possible, and without thinking for a long time.
And in the book, everything was really different and more creepy - at least because of the zombies (who are actually more like vampires), who are very similar to humans and can talk. And here they are rabid freaks who only suddenly got smarter in the end (and really suddenly).
