Javier Bardem will star in the "Cape Fear" series for Apple TV+
Javier Bardem is ready to take on a new job in television: this time it will be the drama series "Cape Fear" for the streaming service Apple TV+.
The ten-episode series is described as a tense Hitchcock-style thriller, and will be an exploration of America's obsession with true crime in the 21st century. In broad outline, the plot and characters remain the same as in the movie versions: happily married lawyers Amanda and Steve Bowden face mounting tension when Max Cady, a notorious killer from their past, is released from prison.
Nick Antosca, who created the crime dramas "A Friend of the Family" and "The Act", is already writing the script and will serve as showrunner for the series. Executive producers will be Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Scorsese directed the 1991 version of the movie, and Spielberg's company Amblin Entertainment was one of the companies producing the original project. Bardem is also an executive producer.
The new series is based on both the novel The Executioners, (like the 1962 adaptation by J. Lee Thompson starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum) and the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese. Mitchum played Cady in the 1962 movie, and Robert De Niro played the brutal killer in Scorsese's version. The character is one of the most iconic and colorful villains in movie history.
