Jason Clarke joins Patricia Arquette in the series "Murdaugh Murders" on Hulu
Jason Clarke ("Dawn of the Planet of the Apes") has landed the lead role in Hulu's upcoming mini-series about the infamous Murdaugh family with the working title "Murdaugh Murders". Clarke will play the head of the family, Alex Murdaugh, and Patricia Arquette ("Holes") will play his wife Maggie.
The series is based on the history of the Murdaugh family and draws on the reporting of journalist Mandy Matney, creator of the "Murdaugh Murders" podcast.
The Murdaugh family hails from the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. Three generations of the family successively served as district attorney in the state's 14th Judicial District from 1920 to 2006. The family's prominence led locals to refer to the five-county district as "Murdaugh Country".
The son, a fourth-generation wealthy attorney, Richard Alexander "Alex" Murdaugh secretly led a life of crime that included fraud, corruption, embezzlement, theft, and drug offenses with several dozen victims, many of whom were socially dangerous. All of his crimes culminated in the murder of his wife Maggie and son Paul with multiple weapons in 2021.
