Netflix announced "My Melody & Kuromi " as a stop-motion animated series
Netflix is launching a new Japanese project, "My Melody & Kuromi", a series based on the popular Sanrio characters. The director is Tomoki Misato, known for his work on "Pui Pui Molcar". The premiere is scheduled for July 2025.
The plot will tell about the cheerful and kind heroine Melody, who bakes cookies with her mom and takes care of her younger brother, as well as about her rival Kuromi — daring, but vulnerable inside.
Production is handled by Toruku, a division of WIT Studio, for whom this is the first project in the stop-motion animation genre. Screenwriter Shuko Nemoto wrote the story during the pandemic. She emphasizes that the project is full of love for the world of My Melody, which has won the hearts of viewers of all ages. The series is timed to coincide with the characters' anniversaries: My Melody turns 50 and Kuromi turns 20.
