At Sundance Film Festival 2025 summed up: the jury and the audience chose the best pictures of the year. The main prize was won by "Atropia" — a satirical military drama directed by Hailey Gates. The film tells the story of an aspiring actress who finds herself in a military training center. There she falls in love with a soldier playing the role of a rebel, but their sincere feelings jeopardize the whole idea of the production.

The Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic category went to "Twinless" by James Sweeney, about two young people who meet at a support group for people who have lost twins and unexpectedly find in each other something more than friendship.

Georgi M. Unkovski's "DJ Ahmet", about a 15-year-old boy who dreams of a DJ career against his family's strict traditions, won the Audience Award for Best International Dramatic Film, as well as the Special Jury Prize for Creative Vision.

In the documentary category, "Seeds" won the Grand Jury Prize, while "Cutting Through Rocks" was the winner among international documentaries.

The descriptions of Atropia and DJ Ahmet sound intriguing.… I think I'll take a look at Akhmet, because both audience sympathy and creative vision are at the same time... It should at least be interesting!

Sundance is not the kind of festival whose laureates I watch. Of the last five years, except for "Coda: children of deaf parents" and "Minari. And that's because they have other bonuses. If I saw the rest, it didn't go in.

"Without a twin" I wanted to see. Judging by the description, there are just raised topics that are close to me, which I periodically return to in my thoughts. Something so sad, but not at all devoid of hope.
