Denzel Washington and Spike Lee back together: "Highest 2 Lowest" trailer released
A24 and Apple Studios have unveiled the first trailer for "Highest 2 Lowest", a crime thriller starring Denzel Washington and rapper A$AP Rocky. The movie will be the fifth collaboration between director Spike Lee and Washington. The film will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, will be released in theaters on August 22, and will be available on Apple TV+ on September 5.
The screenplay was written by William A. Fox. The plot is inspired by the Japanese film "High and Low" by Akira Kurosawa, which, in turn, is an adaptation of the novel "King's Ransom" by Evan Hunter. In the new interpretation, the events unfold in New York: a powerful man is faced with a moral dilemma — to use his influence for personal gain or to save someone else's life.
The cast also includes Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, Dean Winters, John Douglas Thompson, and Ice Spice. Oscar nominee Matthew Libatique served as the film's cinematographer. Filming took place in New York City and wrapped in May 2024.
