7 TV shows about pirates

"Crossbones"
Action, Adventure, Drama | 3.48 out of 5 on MyShows | Season 1 | 2014

1715, the Bahamas. New Providence Island—a haven for pirates, where one of the first forms of self-government in America takes shape. Here, the fearsome Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, rules, keeping the community of thieves and sea adventurers in fear. To seize power over the island, the hired assassin Tom Lowe is sent to eliminate the legendary pirate.
“A pretty decent series. In terms of length, it’s just right—nine episodes is perfect; any more would have been overkill. There are plenty of episodes with unexpected plot twists, which is a plus. The series also wrapped up nicely—it feels like a mini-season with a hint of a sequel, yet also like a fully-fledged, self-contained film. Overall, a positive impression; I expected the worst when I started watching," — Fun_Punk
“The series is controversial. On the one hand, some of the pirate stuff and the laws are portrayed historically accurately and well, but on the other—where did all that nobility come from? Some actors perform well, while others bring something completely incomprehensible to the table. And at the helm of it all are women again... All in all, I still haven’t decided if it’s good or not. I don’t really regret watching it, but I don’t feel like watching it again either,” — Bogun

"The Lost Pirate Kingdom"
Action, Adventure, Historical | 3.67 out of 5 on MyShows | Season 1 | 2021

A documentary series combining elements of historical narrative and dramatic reenactment. Early 18th century. After the war ends, thousands of privateers in the Caribbean are left without work and turn to piracy. They gather on New Providence Island, where they establish their own community—a sort of “pirate republic” living by its own rules.
“I wish there was a full-fledged series with these actors. So many charismatic and interesting characters, something for everyone,” — ah_egorova
“Wowwwww, this is awesome. I really liked the pilot, so I’m happy to keep watching this series,” — TamilaMarkiv
“I just finished playing through Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. That makes it twice as interesting. It turns out the French were more meticulous with historical facts than I thought. And the Netflix documentary really turned out to be very gripping,” — North_Art

"Pirate Islands"
Action, Adventure | 4.16 out of 5 on MyShows | 2 seasons | 2003

A computer game transports 15-year-old Kate Redding and her younger brother and sister to another reality. To return home, Kate, Nicholas, and Sarah must complete the game—defeat their enemies and find the pirate treasure.
“Such a unique idea! A show from my childhood. I searched for it for a long time and finally found it,” — Nasnassya
“A pretty good finale… And the show itself is now watched only by those who caught it as kids and remember it. But after so many years, it’s become a nostalgic reminder that everything eventually ends and you have to return to the real world. In other words, grow up,” — hlas_of_my_nick

"Black Sails"
Action, Adventure, Drama | 4.17 out of 5 on MyShows | 4 seasons | 2014–2017
The year is 1715—the height of the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean. New Providence Island has become a lawless territory where legendary captains share power, and the most dangerous among them is Flint. When the British fleet returns to these waters, threatening to wipe out the pirates, Flint teams up with Eleanor Guthrie, who helps turn their loot into profit. Together, they devise a risky plan to save their home. But rivals stand in their way: jealous captains, Eleanor’s ambitious father, and the cunning newcomer John Silver, who regularly thwarts Flint’s plans.
“I watched it a couple of years ago and loved it. I’m rewatching it with my husband; he’s just gotten into it. I’m finding new things, things I’d forgotten or missed. I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it. It’s time well spent, and you’ll enjoy the plot, the visuals, and the actors,” — Blackly
“The first episode hooked me so hard that I went to bed at six in the morning, barely managing to stop after six. Awesome! Great filming, an interesting plot, cool sets, and very charismatic actors. I hope it only gets better from here,” — umka_pumka
“Before this, I watched *The Bandit Nell*. I started looking for something similar about adventures in the 18th century. I found this series in my bookmarks. From the first few scenes, I thought it looked like a light-hearted show, but I was wrong. I finished watching it with a strange feeling. The story is interesting, but in my opinion, it’s heavy and tragic in parts, given the characters who have died and those who are yet to die—and we already know about this and their future fates,” — Talug

"Our Flag Means Death"
Adventure, Comedy | 4.19 out of 5 on MyShows | 2 seasons | 2022–2013

1717. Nobleman Steed Bonnet, going through a midlife crisis, leaves his old life behind and decides to become a pirate. He trades his family for a ship and a crew, setting off on the greatest adventure of his life, but things don’t turn out as easily as he expected.
“The first episode was a huge hit. It’s usually pretty ineffective to judge the entire series based on the first episode, but I was hooked on *The Flag* almost immediately. The humor is lighthearted, built on subverting expectations, where modern concepts clash with old-fashioned settings. It’s a pleasure to watch; all you do is wonder what they’ll come up with next. The 30-minute episodes are a very unusual format for a series, which makes it all the more disappointing that the first season has only 10 episodes. But, apparently, this is one of those cases where it might even be for the best, so the freshness of the narrative doesn’t wear thin, leaving you wanting more. Steed is an amazing character. He reminds me a lot of Bilbo Baggins—just as gentle and, at first, cowardly—who had to leave his home in search of adventure. It’s extremely rare to see this type of protagonist in movies, and I’m just thrilled to have the chance to enjoy a character like this on screen again! The rest of the cast is colorful and memorable. Taika is a genius," — Pat_Cro
“Overall, a very good series. I liked how the story developed throughout the season; in the first few episodes, there was a sense of chaos and the feeling that you’d been thrown into the story and left to figure it out on your own, but then the plot unfolded really well over the course of the season. I really liked the acting and the unconventional plot. Taika is awesome as alwaysš“ā ļø," — Kitsune_alex

"Black Lagoon"
Adventure, Action, Anime | 4.29 out of 5 on MyShows | 3 seasons | 2006

"Black Lagoon" follows a small team of mercenaries transporting cargo across the South China Sea, often operating on the edge of the law. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the shadowy underworld of Southeast Asia—from Thailand and the Philippines to Japan. At the center is the city of Roanapur, the unofficial capital of the region’s criminal underworld, where mafia groups from various countries—from China and Italy to Colombia and Russia—are constantly vying for influence.
“So cool! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen something I want to binge-watch! I absolutely love the vibe of old-school anime, and I think this is going to be amazing. Revi is awesome—I can already say I love her,” — sh_soffiz
“I don’t know anything, but the show’s atmosphere was off the charts. I felt like both a wild girl and a total lost cause at the same time. Well, to be honest, there were some complaints about the plot, but the characters—both main and supporting—were incredibly compelling. Even now, almost a month later, the word ‘lagoon’ brings to mind Revi’s katana. Two-Handed pulls one of them out and lights up from the shot, hinting to me that I owe this title a review,” — drawmcopa

"One Piece"
Action, Adventure, Fantasy | 4.47 out of 5 on MyShows | 2 seasons | 2023–...

Luffy is a guy with the unusual ability to stretch his body like rubber and an even more unusual dream: to become the Pirate King. He assembles a crew and sets sail, but their brand of piracy is very different from what you might expect. They’re not a gang of robbers, but rather a crew of freedom seekers: each of them pursues their own dream and lives by their own code of honor.
“It was a mistake to watch it at work. I had to pretend my eyes were watering from the monitor. A magnificent season; maintaining this standard in the second season is something else entirely. For some reason, I’m confident that the subsequent seasons won’t disappoint and will be on par with the first two. It’s rare to see this—when people who’ve read the manga and watched the anime leave glowing comments and positive reviews. We’re waiting for the next season! P.S.: As someone who hasn’t read the manga or watched the anime, I have a wild desire to watch all the anime episodes, as well as to satisfy my curiosity by seeing and comparing the animated characters with the characters from the series,” — Sugar_Padre
“I’ll admit it, friends, I’m guilty—I devoured the season in a single day, even though I wanted to stretch out the enjoyment, but it all turned out just too good, and before I knew it, eight episodes had flown by, and now it’s time to wrap things up. The second season had everything I wanted: intense drive and action, an atmosphere of adventure and friendship, and a balance between drama and humor. This season added a whole host of colorful characters; personally, I have absolutely no complaints about the cast. I’d like to give a special shout-out to Lera Abova—she’s an absolutely amazing Nico Robin. When I wrote a couple of years ago, after the news about the second season’s cast, that I thought it would be cool, I had no idea just how cool it would be. Who could argue with that?! Many people had complaints about the casting of Vivi, but I personally loved Charitra Chandran. I don’t know what the rumors are, but it seems to me that the Alabasta Arc finale is planned for the third season, and they’ll start the Sky Island Saga (the Jaia Arc). They’re unlikely to adapt the filler arcs, though who knows. What I really don’t want is another long hiatus. I hope we’ll see the characters again in just a year. For now, I’m raising the flag and waiting! š“ā ļø,” — Prime_Voyager

In fact, there are so few TV series about pirates, I went through what I had watched to complete the selection and found only one Anime)
https://myshows.me/view/73820/
My love is "Black Sails", if you've watched "Vikings" and don't know what to replace it with, then here's a great alternative.
By the way, Vikings are essentially pirates tooš¤£

ā Ha! Remakes and "reinterpretations" are not only in the film and television industry itself, but also in the news about it on myshows.
Well, there was already "Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum: 7 pirate series" from September 28, 2022, with almost the same set of series:
ā https://myshows.me/news/6039/yo-ho-ho-ibutylka-romu-7-serialov-opiratah/
ā
ā @Eristea: ">> thought when the idea collections that a lot of them, and in fact that's almost all :("
ā ā In the comments to the last news some were named. And since then at least "Sandokan / Sandokan" (2025) released: https://myshows.me/view/93820/
ā
But strangely enough, of the entire collection, I watched only Our flag means death, and I must say, this is one of the worst TV shows I've ever seen in my life. If not the most.
The project started out pretty well, the comedy was even funny in places (how the ship went ashore, etc.), but by the middle of season 1, GG with a Black Beard and a couple more characters had slipped into gayness, and in season 2 the plot itself sank for the most part, the humor turned into frankly sordid.
Therefore, well, I don't even know, they may have come up with a good idea, but the implementation is not very good. Or this creation is made for a small local audience, perhaps even with certain views and interests.
Or maybe it's just that the pirate theme doesn't fit well with the comedy genre, and it turns out to be a cross between a hedgehog and a hedgehog.
PCM are still more serious films, probably comparable only to Black Sails or something similar. But as I said, there's not much special here)
And so Van Pease only ā¤
I didn't see the rest.
Thanks for the selection, despite the rating, I was interested in the Lost Kingdom of pirates) and suddenly))
My neighbor plays John Silver in a children's play, so I'm always on good terms with piracy.š¤£š¤£š¤£
As a child, my family and I watched Pirates of the Black Water on cassettes.
And there were also films about Sinbad the sailor. With a lot of monsters and mysticism.
The selection is great, thanks)
Thanks for the selection.
