The teenager is horrified, but Donnie's family and therapist assure him that the rabbit is just a figment of his imagination.
Richard Kelly struggled for years to finance the movie and only Drew Barrymore's production company Flower Films decided to invest in the film. Barrymore also took part in the movie as an actress: she played the role of English teacher Karen Pomeroy.

The movie was nominated for an Oscar for best adapted screenplay. And even years later, numerous polls have shown that "Trainspotting" is called the best British movie of the last 60 years.

After the premiere of the screen adaptation, the author said that he considers the film an improvement of his own book. "Fight Club" was nominated for an Oscar for Best Sound Editing, and it is still on many best picture lists.
