7 great series based on Agatha Christie's detectives
A still from Agatha Christie's Poirot

"Agatha Christie's Poirot"

Crime | 4.54 out of 5 on MyShows | 13 seasons | 1989 — 2013

Кадр из сериала «Пуаро Агаты Кристи»

The famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot lives in London and works as a private detective. Together with his friend, Captain Hastings, Poirot investigates murders and other crimes, unraveling the most complex and inexplicable cases.

"The series is from among those that raise the bar and show an example of a quality detective retro series. Perfectly handled interesting plot, good casting, memorable music, but above all unusually good and generous production, with attention to numerous details and scenes, costumes and props, to a lot of seemingly unimportant to the plot details. Classy stylish saturated picture. The creators clearly did not kopeynichali, perfectly worked artists, decorators and costumers, the right light, masses and even the language", — 7kozlov.

"Will miss the series. Some of the best detective stories we've seen! The cast will never be outdone by anyone. Bravo Agatha Christie and Poirot", — freeromance.

"A terrific series. Terrific Sir David Souché. Watched some episodes as a child with my grandmother and finally decided to watch it through and through. Almost all series on 5, a couple of weak was, but in no actors, music, scenery and filming were on top. In my heart forever this series", — KoteAtrox.

"Miss Marple"

Crime, drama | 4.33 out of 5 on MyShows | 5 seasons | 1984 — 1992

Miss Marple lives modestly in a small English village and spends her days knitting, tending the garden, and investigating murders. With her analytical mind, shrewdness, and stealth, Miss Marple can solve any, even the most intricate mystery.

"A very high quality adaptation of Agatha Christie's works about the most famous female amateur detective. A light, sympathetic, wholesome and, one might say, family detective series with entertainingly intricate cases, with good suspense, with cute quiet humor and wonderfully authentic views, interiors, costumes and types", — 7kozlov.

"Once again that bombastic classic detective feel! I missed this whole world! Great everything!!! But since this is not my first introduction to Ms. Marple, being played by this actress takes some getting used to. But I love it", — DashkaShumik.

"Ms. Marple is gorgeous as always. For the sake of this actress is ready to watch all series)", — Antis_Sekyt.

"Agatha Christie's Marple"

Crime, drama, detective | 4.22 out of 5 on MyShows | 6 seasons | 2004 — 2013

Кадр из сериала «Мисс Марпл Агаты Кристи»

Another adaptation of the adventures of Miss Jane Marple from the picturesque village of St Mary Mead. But if 1984's Miss Marple is more or less an accurate adaptation of Christie's novels, this series, on the contrary, takes great liberties with the text of the source material.

"The second half of the series (with Julia McKenzie) is definitely more successful than the first (with Geraldine McEwan). The presentation is more enjoyable, and indeed the quality in general, from the camerawork to the musical accompaniment", — Pafasan.

"Staged and filmed leisurely, but also unplugged, the action develops confidently, the editing is smooth, neat. Clever dialogues. Successful casting, many famous British actors showed themselves well. Both performers of the main role were able to create interesting images of Ms. Marple, Julia Mackenzie it came out quite close to the canon, and the perky old lady from Geraldine McEwan was noticeably more lively and sly than the book. Good costumes, props and locations help to convey the atmosphere of a very pretty, albeit somewhat idealized, post-war English countryside. It turned out to be quite good, but light and pleasant series based on the works of Agatha Christie. If and inferior to Miss Marple BBC version, then certainly superior to her number of episodes", — 7kozlov.

"Watching Miss Marple after so many other series is seeing hordes of familiar faces from everywhere together. Love the British commune as a family", — lithiglum.

"And Then There Were None"

Crime, drama, thriller | 4.24 out of 5 on MyShows | 1 season | 2015

кадр из сериала «И никого не стало»

Mr. and Mrs. Onim, under various pretexts, invite eight strangers to a magnificent castle located on a small secluded island. When the guests arrive, they find that the owners are absent, and they are greeted by a married couple recently hired as servants. It is they who put on a record that has everyone present accused of the murders. Soon someone begins to take turns killing everyone gathered in the mansion, doing it exactly to the children's count of ten soldiers.

"Awesome! Must definitely read the book! It's impossible to take your eyes off Aidan Turner. Separately I want to say about the musical accompaniment from which throws in a shiver. I really liked that there is no rush in the series, it makes us plunge into the creepy atmosphere, feel all the darkness and fear", — Velvet.

"A good, exquisite adaptation. Small inconsistencies with the source material do not spoil the impression. The great soundtrack emphasizes the dynamics and keeps you in suspense. The party scene is especially amazing, and the final 4 minutes are worthy of the highest praise. The cast is great, especially Dence. Great stuff", — Anlesss.

"Simply delightful! Even though I knew the plot thoroughly, it still kept me in suspense until the last, atmospheric to the point of creepiness. It made me want to reread the book again. If I had 6 stars, I would have given it six", — Nott_kot.

"Ordeal by Innocence"

Crime, drama, detective | 4.04 out of 5 on MyShows | 1 season | 2018

кадр из сериала «Испытание невиновностью»

Christmas 1954. Wealthy heiress Rachel Argyle is murdered at the luxurious estate where she lived with her husband Leo, five stepchildren and maid Kirsten Lindquist. The police find Rachel's son Jack's fingerprints on the alleged murder weapon and arrest him. Jack dies in prison, and it is soon revealed that he was innocent. So who killed Rachel Argyle?

"Didn't expect it to be so interesting at all! Such a purely English detective fully seasoned in its style and manner with notes of thriller, perfect! I really like such quality shooting and unexpected ending", — veer.

"I haven't read the original novel, I can't compare, but the adaptation hit me right away. Very atmospheric, wonderful play of actors, skeletons in the closet of all family members. Of course, this is not a detective in the classical sense, no one conducts a full-fledged investigation, but to me it's even more interesting", — Renfree.

"The book was read, from the plot actually left only the canva. The screen adaptation is not bad, it's just different. Here, almost all the characters have a different character and motives for actions.Without being tied to the detective Christie mini-series turned out pretty good: great actors, nice picture, exciting plot", — duende.

"They Were Ten" / Ils étaient dix

Crime, drama, thriller | 3.39 out of 5 on MyShows | 1 season | 2020

кадр из сериала «Их было десять»

Ten people — five men and five women — receive an invitation to visit a luxury hotel on a deserted island. They quickly realize they are trapped, but who lured them here? The answer lies in their past and the shameful events each of them is trying hard to forget. But today, under this hot tropical sun, they will pay for their crimes.

"Maximum modern adaptation of Agatha Christie's classic novel "Ten Negroes" turned out, to my taste, just great and no worse than more traditional screen adaptations. This is largely due to the fact that the project was headed by one of the coolest French directors and screenwriters in the genre of psychological thrillers and horror - Pascal Logieux, who created such things as "Martyrs", "The Tall Man", "Ghostland".

That's why I was calm for the series-adaptation of Christie's novel: the source material contained elements of psychological thriller, and in Lozhier's hands the story, having kept a rather careful treatment of the original material, became more spectacular and dynamic. Colorful murder scenes, cool flashbacks of everyone who got to the island, explaining why he or she was chosen as a target, panic near the end, secret passages in the house ... And how original the splash screen is!" — Nikquest.

"Fun, nice ending) Yeah, it's fast-paced, not dragged out, it was nice to watch", — warjkeeeeeee.

"Les petits meurtres d'Agatha Christie"

Crime, drama, thriller | 4.06 out of 5 on MyShows | 3 seasons | 2009 — 2023

Кадр из сериала «Загадочные убийства Агаты Кристи»

An anthology based on the works of Agatha Christie. In the first season of the series, set in 1930s France, crimes are investigated by the stubborn Commissaire Larosière and the hapless young Inspector Émile Lampion, but in the second season it is the suave Commissaire Larosière and journalist Alice Avril who solve the cases, and the action moves to the 1950s.

The third and final chapter of the series has almost no connection to Christie's original works. The author of the series said that the off-screen stories would be "too difficult to adapt" for various reasons, so most of the episodes of the third season are original plots "in the spirit of Agatha Christie's works". In the third installment, set in the 1970s, Officer Max Beretta, Commissioner Annie Greco and psychologist Rosa Bellecourt will take on the investigations.

  • "Miss Ma, Nemesis" (2018) — a Korean adaptation of the Miss Marple novels
  • "The Pale Horse" (2020) — an adaptation of Christie's novel of the same name with Rufus Sewell and Kaya Scodelario

@sai_: in the series about Poirot, this book is elegantly adapted, with Emily Blunt in one of the main roles

Poirot is still the best of the selection: attention to detail, cast, etc. Sometimes famous actors flash by. In addition to Blunt, Fassbender came across in one of the episodes. The first 3 seasons were made based on stories, so the plots may seem drawn out. Film adaptations of the novels have been underway since season 4-5. Plus, we added a budget and the series is flourishing.

The first "Miss Marple" may be a bit tedious, but it's probably the closest to Christie's text. There are surprisingly caustic remarks there))
In the second series there are straight strange episodes about her, with unexpected plot pearls from the screenwriters

"The Trial of Innocence" and "Pale Horse" as film adaptations are no good, there is little left of the Christie plot. It seems to be the same showrunner that "The Dublin Murders" did (based on the books by Tana French). She can do it effectively, but she has trouble with scripts.

I love "Poirot" with David Suchet, it's a one hundred percent hit and a competent approach to the film adaptation.
More modern adaptations of Agatha Christie, in big movies, in miniseries, I think, although beautiful, but superficial and sometimes hacky.
