Overview

Miss Marple, the spinster detective who is one of the most famous characters created by English crime writer Agatha Christie, is portrayed by Joan Hickson who starred in a dozen television mysteries about Miss Marple over the course of a decade. Between 1984 and 1992 the British Broadcasting Corporation in association with Australia's Seven Network and America's Arts and Entertainments Network, produced an irregular series of twelve Miss Marple mysteries. The elderly, deceptively delicate Joan Hickson starred in each of these as the amateur detective from the bucolic village of St. Mary Mead.

A completely ordinary and seemingly unremarkable lonely elderly lady living in the village of St. Mary Mead in the English countryside confidently solves intricate mysteries and investigates unexplained murders, thanks to her attentiveness, sharp mind, rich life experience and invisibility.

The authors did not significantly change the time-tested original plots and rather accurately and completely preserved the textbook stories with intricate criminal schemes, with a large number of suspects, with unexpected discoveries and twists. There were no attempts to modernize and somehow revive or "colorize" the main character. An ordinary, inconspicuous old woman with a wide circle of friends and relatives and with a great understanding of human nature.

It was set and shot rather slowly, without rapid camera movements, the installation is smooth. Considerable attention is paid to the atmosphere, wonderful props, and good locations. Successful casting, everyone plays well in general, and Joan Hickson was able to create just the perfect image of Miss Marple, probably the closest to the book I know.

It turned out to be a very high-quality film adaptation of Agatha Christie's works about the most famous amateur female detective. A light, likeable, decent and, one might say, family detective series with amusingly complicated cases, with good intrigue, with sweet calm humor and wonderfully authentic views, interiors, costumes and types.

Language. They speak very well. That's right, with excellent pronunciation and excellent intonation. Subtitles can help with the occasional slightly outdated words and phrases.
