I watched the episode on YouTube. And there were a lot of foreign comments under the video. Someone told about a personal meeting with Thompson in the 70s at the presentation of his book. Someone said that it used to be easy to just get through and talk to him. Someone was talking about how everyone reacted to the news of his death. And someone said that there was a similar situation in their families or with their close friends. Someone called him an egoist, and someone treated him with understanding. I can probably understand both the people who do it and the people who can't understand it. The pain of loss is understandable to everyone. But why does a person suddenly do this? And how to understand what motivates a person at this moment? Many people call it "selfishness," but I don't think so. Because the moment a person has the thought of death in his head, he is already dead. He exists, but he doesn't live. And there's nothing he can do about it. Day after day, he experiences only the torments of this existence. Can this be called selfishness? If so, then those who think that someone should live for them can also be called egoists.

Perhaps these are malicious jokes of our psyche. There is a phrase: "Once an addict, always an addict.". And it really is. Yes, there are people who overcome themselves and live for many years on the sidelines. But is there any guarantee that if the temptation arises, he will not succumb to it? Even after 40 years, people who are blindfolded can't stop after snorting coke once. And death catches up with them very quickly. It's the same here. You may go into remission for a while. You can forget yourself. But the truth is, that thought will never leave your head. She will sit and wait for the right moment.
