To be honest, it still remains a mystery to me what the directors were guided by when choosing Joanne Whalley for the role of Scarlett. I have no complaints about Dalton, he is charming in any role. Of course, it is better not to compare with the book at all, because we have overplayed and messed up a lot. However, every time the series is shown on TV, I run headlong to the screen.
It's a pity that this is the only series based on the book. It's full of crap, it's kind of delayed, and there are a lot of discrepancies with the book. And Scarlett wasn't convinced either. Although Timothy Dalton as Rhett is very good.
P.S.: dear moderators, please fix the duration of the series from 480 to 90 minutes.
I join the above - with the actress for the role of Scarlett, they absolutely missed. She got a much better role in Borgia, for example. But to transfer Scarlett's character to the screens - she (alas) failed. But Timothy Dalton was pleased. I didn't like the plot of the series very much, they screwed it up. Somewhere "UNDER", somewhere "OVER". So I don't even know if I should recommend watching it after Gone With the Wind.
All the episodes I thought, "what a strange choice of actress for the role of Scarlett?", zero hits in the character, no slanted green eyes, no explosive character, except that the waist is really thin)))
I agree with previous commentators that Scarlett was made into a saint, well , the "Original Scarlett" would rather shove this lord into the fireplace, and not scream at the top of her voice "save, help"
I watched the series only to "calm my soul" after reading "gone with the wind" so that at least somewhere there would be a good ending))
PS I have not read the book "Scarlett", but in no universe would Scarlet o'hara give her precious CONTAINER to her most beloved sister Suellen)))))
A very bad series, made without a soul, the spirit of the times is not conveyed, the atmosphere is nothing at all. The actress plays very badly, the role is difficult, it is a moody and explosive character, infantile, but strong-willed and strong, she also plays some kind of saint - humble, meek, kind, not Scarlett O'Hara in a word. They also made some kind of slut out of her, it's immediately clear that the series is very modern. The actress seems to have been picked up only because of her external resemblance to Vivien Leigh, and it is true in places, but nothing else at all. A miss is a miss. And Dalton is great, there are no complaints about him
