Six years ago, I would not have believed what I wrote now, but: THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS. I even waited a year before I started watching the fourth season, reviewed the previous three to make sure that AD is still the best sitcom I've watched (and I was convinced), but from the very first minutes of the new season it becomes obvious that something is not working. But I couldn't figure out exactly what it was. Even the color and position of the camera seem alien here. Maybe it's true that color trading spoils everything. Perhaps the complexity of the plotlines is forced: the original episodes were an example of a perfectly written comedy that works on all levels, for any audience; now, each story needs to be made as ornate as possible for no apparent reason. For sure, Hervitz just has more freedom on netflix, but these meta-jokes have been tired for a long time, there are too many of them here. And no one needs them in 2013, except for some cretins who are OK with comedies on CBS (well, you get it, right?). I also wanted to write the word "intertextuality", but I'm not sure if it's appropriate here, because I do not know the meaning of the word "intertextuality".
