Overview

From cutting classes to brawling in the streets, Yusuke Urameshi is not your typical role model. In fact, this kid's nothing more than a fourteen-year-old delinquent with a talent for trouble. But in a single selfless act Yusuke dies while saving another. For such noble sacrifice he is given a second chance at life, but it's to be a life far different than the one left behind. Now a Spirit Detective, the young man must track down demons and humans alike who desire to rule over the three realms of reality.

Granted with amazing new powers to be used in the cause of good versus evil, Yusuke sets out on his first assignment. He will gather together those who will fight alongside him: Kuwabara, Yusuke's intellectually challenged formal rival from high school; Kurama, an infamous thief from the Demon World who inhabits a human body; and Hiei, a hot-headed demon skilled with both the sword and the third eye. Together, these four set forth to do battle with monsters, beasts and men.

This is definitely a very good senen, but I honestly admit that I didn't like it as much as I expected after many admiring reviews.
This title definitely has interesting tournament arcs, generally interesting minor characters, and well-represented battles not only in the form of a machete. But I have to admit that I didn't like something about this title.
This is just my opinion, but I found the ability system terribly boring. In fact, for 112 episodes, no one has had significant changes in strength, no new techniques or the development of old ones. The only thing that changed was their power level, and that was it. Juuske shot the whole thing out of his finger, and continued to do it further. Even when he awakened the blood of demons in himself, it didn't really change anything. The same can be said about the others. And that wouldn't be a problem, but even simple hand-to-hand combat was monotonous and not to say interesting. As a counter-example, I can imagine Dragon Pearl (if of a similar age) or Naruto. There weren't many changes in abilities either, but hand-to-hand combat did a great job of breaking the monotony.
Well, in general, there weren't the most interesting arcs yet, but there's more flavor here, and even when there are over 100 episodes in senen, not every plot can be made interesting or exciting in it.
Overall, this is a very good title that I didn't mind spending time on. If you like senenas and want to dilute modern ones with something classic, then why not take a look at this title.
