Overview

Young Sherlock is touted as an irreverent, action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character. At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.

@WFurman: the Guy Ritchie effect has a place to be. You always expect something posh like Gentlemen, a Big Prize, or Sherlock and Downey Jr. movies from him, but in reality, something in between like Operation Fortuna or the Ministry of Non-Gentleman's Affairs can come out. Unfortunately, Young Sherlock looks exactly like the last two projects, and he is very far from even films with Downey. It's just an average series that you can watch once in your spare time, but considering that showrunner Richie wants to see something more in it, some people do it.

A good Guy Ritchie project, but without much enthusiasm. It is clear that he was trying to adopt the style of his films about Sherlock with Robert Downey Jr. - the same shooting style, soundtrack, staging of fights and generally the emphasis on this element. The problem is that the scale of the series is significantly smaller, and Hiro Fiennes-Tiffin's charisma is noticeably inferior to Downey Jr.

Richie is taking liberties with the canon this time. Moriarty is Holmes' partner, Sherlock's father is the main villain, his sister is a kind of analogue of Irene Adler, only Mycroft is close to the classic. It was a controversial decision, but on the whole it looked interesting, even if there were moments when the plot sagged. The last two episodes are beautifully shot. The series definitely deserves to be reviewed.
