Overview

The Other Bennet Sister is a fresh spin around the ballroom for one of Jane Austen's most unassuming characters: Mary Bennet – the seemingly unremarkable and overlooked middle sister in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The series takes as its premise that - when it comes to the Bennet sisters - while we dream of being Lizzy, in reality most us are more like Mary...

Unlike her sisters, Mary isn't your typical period drama heroine. She is awkward, anxious, preachy, full of facts, a terrible singer… overlooked by her mother and seemingly destined to an empty dance card for the rest of her life… until Mary takes matters into her own hands.

The Other Bennet Sister gives Mary Bennet the epic love story nobody predicted for her, taking her from her family home in Meryton to the soirees of Regency London and the peaks and vales of the Lake District - all in search of independence, romance and, most elusive of all, self-love and acceptance.

I wanted to hit my mother in the face with something heavy the whole series. She's always been stupid and talkative, but now she's mean and cruel(

And so a nice series, giggled with Mr. Darcy

Thank you BBC from the bottom of my heart for this series! Everything about it is good - the costumes, the nature, the script, the unbroken image of the main character, and the authentic appearance of the characters (finally, unusual fresh faces that don't exactly say they know what an iPhone is!). Mary Bennet is wonderful. Such a geeky girl of her time, completely out of place. At first, I was a little annoyed by her spinelessness, but then I got into her problem (an unloved, forgotten child with a narcissistic mother and an indifferent father), and her character. She is very kind, empathetic, absolutely not embittered no matter what, with a high level of emotional intelligence, open to everything around her, like a curious child (a wonderful scene where Miss Bingley sat her down with some kind of bore, and she managed to talk to him and listened with sincere pleasure about horses).
And Tom Hayward is just a sweetheart. The actor seemed very handsome to me. And it was so sweet to watch him and Mary - a little lost, awkward, but very tremulous and touching in their identical eyepieces! A wonderful spring show, in a word 💔

@daebana: I liked Mr. Collins here! Somehow they added more life to it, compared to the book
