The make-up artists did a great job - both Elizabeth and Letisse are amazing at their age, and they look like themselves, and they're not funny, and you can see that they're really older women, not two painted wrinkles. The queen even walks quite differently. And the scene where Elizabeth is without a dress and hairstyle is super!
It's a quiet horror. The first two episodes can still be tolerated somehow, but the rest is utter slag. I don't understand how "such a masterpiece" could be filmed by the BBC channel. I do not recommend viewing at all. It's not worth it.
It doesn't rivet you to the screen, of course, but if you're interested in the history of the royal family (albeit with the liberties of retelling), it's worth watching.
The main problem with such works is that the authors, instead of focusing on any one specific period, try to cover almost the entire life of Elizabeth, because of this, many historical events and personalities are not given enough attention, and the narrative itself looks crumpled. It would be possible to end this story on the death of Robert Dudley, it would look quite harmonious, and devote the rest of the time to the same Mary Stuart. Otherwise, it turned out quite well. Excellent soundtrack, good cinematography, costumes, scenery and decent acting. But Tom Hardy, indeed, looked somehow alien against the general background.
I liked the series. The actors, almost all of them, coped with the roles perfectly. Costumes, music, script - a wonderful historical project, I recommend it for viewing.
I liked the beginning, then they started showing the remaining events too haphazardly, I agree that it was worth ending with Robert's death. But the last scene blocked everything out - Elizabeth was wearing a portrait of her mother, Anne Boleyn, in the ring. It was very strong! And against the background of great music. Also, the chemistry between Robert and Elizabeth is something explosive, it was nice to watch them.

If Duff is very convincing here, then Hardy looked too modern.
