this film is so stretched, they tried to show us the advanced effects of '79, and the ending is weak with many open questions, compared to the series, the film is very weak. If they didn't stretch it out, it turned out to be 80-90 minutes, maybe the impression would have been different.
I agree that the film is delayed, the plot is the weakest point in it. But I didn't even notice it right away, because I would have been captured by the improvement of the scenery in comparison with the series. There's a big bet on a Comeback here! and new graphics. Even the following films do not squeeze out the special effects of those times so much.
Filmed qualitatively... perhaps this is the only plus for me. The plot is drawn out and in places terribly resembles a space odyssey. There is a lack of dynamics and ease of the original series. The downside was the new Starfleet uniform... it looks like pajamas. In general, of course, it's not so bad, it's worth a look.
Damn, I liked it! I was expecting something similar to the original series, but of course I forgot that, firstly, ten years have passed, during which there was a big leap in terms of special effects, and secondly, it's still a full meter, and the budget here was ten times more. It's cool that all the old heroes are together. We will look further =)
A harsh film. For two hours there is no action, dialogues are only on the case, jokes in Starfleet are not joking (except for our beloved doctor). The creators adhere to their own motto, "our goal is to boldly go where no man has ever set foot," perhaps too zealously. The movie is frankly delayed, the interaction between the team is weak, keeping the viewer's attention on only one riddle for two hours is not the best idea. All this would look organically in the format of an episode of the original series, but there is an empty space that the director does not use at all. On the other hand, there is something captivating and noble in the spirit of old fiction, some naivety and simplicity of the stories of that time. In a world of the future full of the unknown and amazing, where people, even if they get into a desperate situation, will risk their lives and try to find a peaceful way to solve the problem. I was amused by the disco-style Starfleet uniform.)
It's a very heavy film, but not because of the history, but because of the length. The timing is wild, and the depth of the film is at the level of a regular series. The effects are cool, of course, the budget is visible, but the plot is the weakest thing here. Long long shots, long dialogues for the sake of dialogues. And most importantly, as noted above, no jokes for you. Of course, you can look at it, but it was too hard.
The costumes, of course, are much better than in the series. Especially pleased with the trousers on the girls. Plus the colors are nice and natural. The change of designer did them good.
And the costumes for the next films are beautiful. So far, I consider them the best among all those seen in the franchise. I wonder what will happen next.
It's a real joy against the background of modern films / TV series
