Riley is very weak, and not as he thinks physically, but as a spiritual weakling, who thinks everything falls short of Buffy and is jealous of her relatives
Somehow Riley has blown away this season, if earlier he was busy with the Initiative, and constantly engaged in business, now all these delusional actions with a vampire, and his spending time in a bar, as well as self-pity are clearly from idleness. He doesn't deserve Buffy, and he's not her support at such a difficult moment in her life.
@illseethese: Lol, don't you think Buffy really can't be weak just because she's a Slayer? She is not supposed to be weak by status (otherwise she will be quickly killed), and the fact that she has any kind of relationship at all is an exception to the rule. Any man who has been or will be with Buffy should understand that he will always be "a little" in second place, but this does not mean that Buffy will not need him, because strong people also need support. It is "people". We used to think that it was always women who should stand aside and inspire men to do all sorts of things. But why can't it be the other way around? The problem here is rather Riley, who really can't accept the fact that he's weaker than Buffy, and is looking for a back seat to his adventures in order to prove something to someone.
Riley might have been a good guy for Buffy if it wasn't for her self-esteem. It's good that often, despite his feelings (self-inflicted), he tries to control himself in front of her. But how can he look for confirmation of his theory about how she doesn't need him at the moment when her mother is dying! She can't think about anyone right now, she needs support. He's always comparing himself to others and doesn't understand that Buffy needs a good, reliable person. So what if he's weaker, he's still not a simple dude, a former commander, knows how to fight coolly, he's stronger than everyone else in their team. Shortly.. Well, that's all sad
I didn't quite understand the moment where Riley sticks her neck out to the vampire. Did he want to become a vampire, but he came to his senses in time? Did you think it would be cooler if you looked like an Angel? 🤔
Graham (Riley's colleague) was right when he told him that he should come back to them. Previously, he had a service, which was the mission of his life, and so on. Right now, he feels superfluous here. Many people in real life get lost in alcohol or substances because of this...
Glory sweeps Buffy so hard, it's amazing that there's not a scratch on her. It's clear that there's no point in making up after every regular fight, but it would be worth it with a serious opponent...
