The creator of the historical epic Vikings, Michael Hearst, returns to the familiar world of Scandinavian myths, legends and harsh warriors. For Prime Video streaming, Hearst will direct the drama series Bloodaxe. MGM Television Studio will handle the production.
The upcoming series will focus on the semi-legendary King of Norway Eirik the Bloodaxe (885-954), also known as Eirik the Fratricide. The series will tell the story of his formation and transformation into one of the most famous Viking rulers in history. Attention will also be paid to his formidable wife Gunnhild, nicknamed the Mother of Kings because she bore Eirik eight sons. They are fighting for the Norwegian throne, while a battle is raging for the country between fierce rivals, surrounded by betrayal and strife. A war is coming, bringing with it chaos, which will engulf the kingdom and allow the rulers of other Scandinavian countries, as well as the powerful English ruler, to claim the territories. The new Viking saga promises to be deafening, devastating, magnetic and enchanting.
