What a fool Marian is, because she has known for half a year that no one has abandoned her, but continues to live with someone who is disgusting to her...
All episodes of this series are visually beautiful, but this series...just a separate bow to the creators! Such a warm, summery and cozy atmosphere.
I wanted to write about call me by your name, but, thank God, I'm not the only one who caught these vibes. Thanks to the commentator above!
It was like walking through the back streets of Italy again... having plunged into this atmosphere, I do not want to return to reality, just look without being distracted with:
Yes, from the start he was like that, do not remember how else on the rights of a fellow ex-boyfriend he already told her in an imperious tone what to do;))
@LeraShapran: As a guy, it was obvious initially when he started being jealous of her before he was in a relationship with her. Only assholes and jealous people will so obviously beat off someone else's cheek. If a guy really loves a girl, then he will be glad to have any relationship with her, even if not with him, as long as she is happy. Actually, that's what Connell was doing until he found out that he was hitting her.
so sorry for Marianne, who at first suffered humiliation from her brother, while having no support from her mother, and having no friends, and now is in a relationship with this fucker Jamie
These "emotional roller coasters" reminded me of the movie "More than Love", where the characters converge and diverge and do not understand that their feelings are real.
It's unpleasant to watch. They love each other, play some ridiculous games, betray their partners, sincerely do not understand why they choke in response. To be in a relationship with uninteresting and even unpleasant people to you personally, to tell them that everything is fine and treat them as if it's their fault that you don't love them, that everything they do is unpleasant to you, and when they reach the verge of despair in their lack of understanding why you are so with them, if everything is fine, it's time to go back to feeling sorry for yourself again. Indeed, normal people torture themselves and others.
In any case, it is the choice of people, and their partners too. They obviously feel that they are not loved, but they continue to be in a relationship, perhaps because of their narcissistic nature, to achieve love, to prove that they are better
Oh, God! They. They say. Together. I'm in shock, ladies and gentlemen)) the characters grow up, albeit slowly and sadly, which means that not everything is lost...
It was so stunningly filmed that it was as if I was sitting at the same table with them. That was how it felt, the tension, the awkwardness for Jamie's behavior.
Based on all the eight episodes I have watched so far, I am increasingly convinced that the series is quite simple and about simple things. It's just about the feelings of two people for each other. But due to the fact that they cannot tell in a timely and frank manner about what they feel, what they think and what they want, and there is a constant rapprochement, then distance. Maybe that's why the series is called "Normal People" because such a problem in the communication of modern people is quite a normal phenomenon.
In this episode, I really enjoyed the conversation at the table. And especially Connell, who delicately leveled all Jamie's attacks and provocations. However, delicacy is a constant quality of Connell. The only trouble is that excessive delicacy sometimes turns into either modesty, shyness, or timidity. Which leads to trouble, like when a few episodes earlier an understatement led to a completely ridiculous breakup.
In general, the characters are really developing. Previously, Connell was mostly a wingman in the duo of the main characters. But here, without a doubt, he rushed to break up the quarrel and took Marianne's side. (We recall how at school Connell ignored unflattering remarks in her direction).
Ps. I was surprised when a drunk Jamie did not throw his fists at Connell (or at least did not throw insults) when he got into something not really his own business, into a family showdown. Apparently, the authors wanted such a beautiful series not to be spoiled by an ugly scene)
@id1081158: so in this situation, Marianne's protection did not threaten him with mass condemnation of the collective. No, of course, he has grown somewhat morally, but still the situations are not very comparable, as for me.
@LerKechan: it seems to me that Connel was rather afraid not of condemnation, but to publicly show his feelings for the girl. We recall how Marianne had told him a few episodes earlier that he did not show his feelings for her in public. And then there was the scene by the pool when Connell finally hugged her in public. Hence his act, when he rushed to protect the girl in front of other people, is very significant.
actually, this is obvious, and Marianne's friend correctly said that inviting Connell to the villa where the current young man will be is equal to the fact that there will inevitably be a conflict.
Marianne quarreled with her boyfriend, decides not to spend the night in the same bedroom with him... "Where can I spend the night?" Marianne thinks. Of course, in the bedroom of the ex, because of which there was an initial conflict with the guy. No, spending the night in a friend's room is not an option. Expect another big scandal in the morning. 🙃
I was also surprised that she didn't go to her friend's bedroom. And where is Jamie himself? Sleeping in their room? Did he want to have a showdown about where Mariana would sleep?
I sat for half an episode and thought how cool it must be to have such a beautiful small villa in Italy that the main drama faded into the background 😅
Jamie is such an unpleasant guy, I just wanted to prescribe for him. I'm surprised that no one except Marianne tried to do this, guys have iron patience. And it's a pity about the glass. He's kind of a narrow-minded guy in terms of moral values, spoiled, I would even say. And like a naughty child, Alya "you invited Connell, so I'll act like a jerk and show you how wrong you are."..
Oh, how symbolic (in my opinion) the song is at the end. "Love will tear us apart." It's impossible to love the original of this song. And the cover of the song is very pleasant
Bombastic series!!! Cool episode!! And what an end!!! - they are together in the gallery and the painting. How terrible Jamie looked with his behavior!!!- abomination (slippery horrible type
What a flawed Jamie, a man with an inferiority complex, trying to compensate for his sadistic behavior, both in life and in sex. Interestingly, Marianne seemed to have come to realize her own value earlier and even expressed condemnation of her mother for giving herself offense, and now she herself is a passive participant in abusive relationships... Ignores the problem and unconsciously pretends/convinces herself deep inside that everything is fine, apparently her psychological defenses work that way. Everything is shown very vitally.
Marianne and Connell are so natural and happy next to each other, as if this is how it should be. It's a pity that they understand this themselves, but they can't accept love and happiness. Both need to work out their injuries separately in order to come together on healthier ground and just get high, ignoring self-doubt and defense mechanisms
A very touching series about the youthful love of two slightly insecure guys and girls who themselves cannot understand whether it is love or just friendship. They quarrel together, they cannot live apart without each other, while trying to start a new relationship that does not lead to anything good.
My God, why is this rat sitting at the head of the table, why does he behave as if this is his house, he didn't help in any way, he can't even open a bottle, he just speaks out 🥹
What an asshole is Jamie 🤦🏻♀️

I felt so sorry for her at those moments and ashamed of his actions.
Indeed, normal people torture themselves and others.
The atmosphere in this series is wonderful, I immediately wanted to spend the summer in a villa in an Italian town.
"Marianne, where are you going?"

comparing the physical form of Connell and Jamie, I think it would be suicide for the latter :D
The atmosphere is high
Italy, of course, not through the eyes of Luca Guadagnino, but wyba and cmbyn and wrwwr caught it

I agree with the general opinion, Jamie ue * ok... 🙄
Why are they torturing each other, well, just sit down and talk about everything, straight. It is clear that they both do not like their own ... 😒
