The book is more interesting, but it was cool to see a video with real clippings from the first documentary and a lot of new details were added

A person with a diagnosis, in whose company you are sometimes afraid to be, asks you to arrange an escape. Really, what could go wrong?!

I think that if you clear Milligan's image of all this husk that Wilbur and Keyes wrapped him in, what remains is a serial killer.

the impressions are completely different than from the book

If after reading there was some compassion , Faith in his illness , then now I am more and more inclined to believe that he was a brilliant liar
Of course, with a mental disorder , but not with splitting

As a result, there was an impression that this was some kind of overtreated and, at the same time, an undertreated loony-talker, who most powerfully hung noodles on everyone's ears, even doctors, who eventually believed what they were talking about.

But even with such introductions, some characters, like the same turbo-tanned psychiatrist named Allen or Dr. Lindner, along with journalist Bob Root, did not cause anything but disgust. Toad v Viper of some kind.

I love documentaries, but for the umpteenth time I have the feeling that they stretch the timing. Several characters repeat the same phrases one after another, but in different words. This, of course, is depressing.
But in general, the work is good. I did not read the book, but the documentary allowed me to get acquainted with this story.

@ivanshchitov: The book is called "The Multiple Minds of Billy Milligan," by Daniel Keyes 😊
I highly recommend watching it) it was written by Keyes when he visited Billy in the hospital and recorded it on a dictaphone)

@Mayer_E: why did you write this if there is a documentary about it and there was a whole passage about Keyes? including criticism

@fantasco: Why did I write this? It's a very strange question. Because I was reading this book and I responded to a person's comment

Obviously, after such a childhood, Milligan had a mental disorder, but whether he had all these personalities is still a question.
But it is clear for sure that he got worse only because he initially escaped punishment for his crimes. I realized that I could do anything and get nothing for it, so I went off the rails. He was definitely worth keeping either behind bars or in a psycho.hospital

Strange impressions after watching the series. On the one hand, information about Milligan's life was added, which was missing after reading the book. On the other hand, there is a ragged, indistinct narration, flashing cuts with some people (it seemed that this was just stretching the timing of the series), every five minutes new interviewees appear (Billy's next friend/ girlfriend, Billy's niece), whom you had not seen before and say something that does not matter to the general story It doesn't matter at all. The people Milligan killed/did not kill are mentioned in passing and no clarity has been provided in any case. Crime shows from Origin look much better both in script and structure.

@yaSERIALomanka: I don't know how you read/watched it, but there was nothing about the murders. As a result, he was convicted on "... three counts of kidnapping, three counts of robbery and four counts of violence."

@ZemAndrei: she means that he verbally admitted that he had killed, including in a conversation with his niece, and before that he said, mocking, that he was wearing glasses of the Madden he killed

As a person who reread the book specifically before watching it, I was only interested in the last episode. New crimes were revealed, information about life after appeared. For the first three episodes, I didn't like the lack of critical thinking, 90% of the participants categorically claim that Billy was a con artist. The truth is out of the question, but regardless of whether Milligan had dissociative disorder, he was a genius. A brilliant actor, a brilliant liar, a brilliant manipulator, a brilliant man showing us the possibilities of the brain in the form of masterful mastery of a variety of skills. After the documentary, sympathy disappeared, but interest still remained.

I read both books ("The Mysterious Story of Billy Milligan" and "Milligan's Wars") and after them there was a very strong sympathy. I believe that splitting was possible after all that he went through, mostly in childhood, because I would have committed suicide without hesitation after that. Of course, many people do not believe in what is unfamiliar to them, because the unfamiliar is frightening.
This does not justify his actions, but it can bring clarity to his actions. He did time for his crimes, but it wasn't his biggest problem in life. It seems to me that adaptation in society was more difficult.
I rarely trust documentaries, especially after Leaving Neverland, where it never became clear which side the truth was on. The writer probably had personal contact with Billy, so I have more confidence in him.
In the film, it was interesting to look at Billy himself and the recordings of conversations with him. But without reading the books, it turns out like an incomplete picture of history. And the speakers, as always, repeat the same thing one after another, stretching the timing and the focus is already lost.

I advise you to watch this documentary after reading the book, since everything in the book comes from Billy's head, it gives clarity to the picture and an understanding of his feelings.
And really, as we said earlier, after reading the book there was a feeling of empathy, empathy, I believed in the diagnosis and what was happening. I got the feeling that this was a lost person who needed help, I sincerely wanted to help him, but I wondered how, after all that I had experienced, I could still exist and not commit suicide
The documentary confused me, because they showed and talked about those facts that contradict what was written in the book. They say he is a terrible manipulator and a genius who pretends well. It was interesting to hear the opinions of people who personally communicated with him. It was interesting to look at the footage from his therapy sessions. It was interesting to find out what happened to him after what was described in the book. A pretty ordinary death, no matter how it sounds. I thought it would be more logical and perhaps more interesting (may everyone forgive me) if he committed suicide

The book presents Keyes' fantasies, not facts. Keyes was fascinated by the idea of "multiple personalities" and therefore adjusted the actions of the psychopath to the fantasy he needed.

I am truly sorry for Billy, the crippled child. The mother did not react that the child was being raped, the doctors did not treat him, they shoved him from clinic to clinic. Nobody needs a damn thing, of course the flask will whistle.
In general, how little the human brain has been studied, how many hidden possibilities.

The music is just a bomb in this documentary 🔥

So who is Billy Milligan? a conman who manipulated people all his life. He really needs to get an Oscar.
it is clear that everything went from childhood, but how do these attitudes "a child should have a father" bring me out. Yes, it's better than nothing than such a finished man who became Billy's stepfather.

the only drawback in this series for me personally is the lack of translation in all conversations with doctors and some dialogues that take up enough screen time. maybe it was just me who had such an option, of course, but it was really difficult because of this.
