It's about boundaries. it's unpleasant when people smoke near you - step back. it's unpleasant when your wife smokes, ask her not to do it near you and, most likely, if she respects you (and why else would she marry you then), then she won't do it in front of you. but forbidding something to another person when it has nothing to do with you is taking too much on yourself.
