This series was completely made for me by Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter. Her acting is simply beyond praise, she deserves all the TV awards for this role! She was the true jewel of the show. Marisa and Azriel are just incredible together! Yes, James McAvoy also played great, but there was very little of him, so Ruth is the main star here for me personally, she just eclipsed everyone! It is a pity that Lyra will never know what her parents did for her and that they died in the name of their daughter.
Unfortunately, "Dark Beginnings" is not an awards format series, they can only get something insignificant, they are unlikely to get to the Emmys and Globes, so Ruth Wilson personally receives an award from me for the most gorgeous acting, and Marisa and Azriel - for the hottest couple!
@pondgirls: in general, I have never seen such an acting game as Ruth Wilson's in three hundred TV shows (but especially in the first two seasons, in 3 she did not play the bad or the good all the time, here she already had a more unambiguous role, and the first two seasons she just I tore up this series with my game)
@christinapirs: Ruth is one of my most-most favorite actresses, but even with this condition, I can name at least a dozen series in which other actresses played at Ruth's level... And Ruth herself has many more interesting roles, including serial ones
I wanted to watch everything in one gulp, and now it seems like too much emotional turmoil...The fight with Metatron turned out to be quite beautiful. Lyra never managed to touch the monkey...It's a pity Metatron was introduced as a character just a little bit. And another cool moment at 19-20 minutes, Marisa ognennaya)
@zSky: there was no epic at all at the end, it's not even clear if the Ruler was a villain at all at the end, or was he displaced by Metatron and stupidly the ruler was locked up all this time?
@christinapirs: as far as I remember from the book, this is how it should be, the characters don't even understand who it was, and we understand only by context. Because effectively God has been dead all this time, and now he has also finally become free.
@christinapirs: according to the book, it was about the same. The ruler is very very old and very very weak. literally a lifeless, feeble old man. And instead of him, Metatron has been running everything for a long time. It's just that only some angels knew about it. And even among people, especially no one knew.
Azriel thought that his war was with the ruler, and in fact - with the government of Metatron and with faith in the ruler) The grandfather himself had been suffering for a long time and finally found peace when Lyra and Will found him
The golden monkey has such sad eyes the whole series, and in this last scene it's even to tears. A wonderful moment, the best episode of the series (although I said so about the past ones... I think the next one will be good too). Some moments were changed, but the battle still turned out to be large-scale, well, + for the fact that the Ruler was shown, at the end of the battle I thought that they had forgotten about him (although this moment is more interesting in the book).
Ruth Wilson and McAvoy are gold, Ruth is generally gorgeous, Marissa is such a complex character, but she played it 10/10.
The creators of the effects depicted the monkey daemon so lively and believable, but with such ‘human’ emotions. The whole series just wanted to hug him
@alexisscale: well, it's not difficult to make a monkey with human emotions, we are also primates, emotions are quite recognizable. And the obvious differences with a person only make it easier for the viewer to dive, because the shoals are less noticeable than if they were on a computer-made human face.
All in tears and snot! A very strong episode came out. Dying daemons are a direct blow to the heart. James McAvoy and Ruth Wilson are great. Very touched, even knowing the plot from the books.
By the way, I think this is the case when it's good to watch the series and read books. The creators are forced to omit some chapters, but in some places they dug deeper. It came out on 10 out of 10!
@nonlondon: she subdued the ghosts last season. probably, the fact is that they feed on daemons, and Marisa has an eternal discount with her) I can be wrong of course
@nonlondon: they attack adults, but she can suppress everything human in herself, that's why Zafania told her to do it so that she could control them again. But to destroy...
Let's raise our glasses to the game of Ruth Wilson, she truly got used to and qualitatively played the role of Marisa👏🥂
The battle was exciting, but after watching the episode, it really hurt, especially for the damons – everything that happens on the screen to tears…T___T
Oh, what great creators and actors. In the books, she loved Azriel and Marisa the most, and here they were even more and more interesting revealed.
I hope that the Book of Dust (although I love it less than the original trilogy) will also get a film adaptation. It's even kind of sad to see that the series is now marked dead on mayshow.
It's good that everything ended well!! Insanely sorry for Marisa and Azriel, sacrificed himself for the good of the world, throughout the series Marisa from a hated character became a character that it was a pity to lose, the game is at the highest level, all the actors without exception!! It's a pity that the series is coming to an end, it was an incredible adventure long in three seasons, one of my favorite TV shows😍
Most of all, I'm sorry for Stelmaria.:(But she left pretty damn well. As is her voice - Helen McCrory. And thanks to the one who put her on the cover of the series. The moment is awesome in terms of the intensity of emotions.
I can't believe this episode. I just can't. So, perhaps, no one else can remove the emotional moment. They are the best for me. Forever. A concentrate of the highest good.
I thought that some famous actor would be hired for the role of Megatron. Because his face was not in vain only at the end of his plot was shown. But no-they just chose the one with big eyes.
I agree, it would be interesting to see some familiar actor. But this actor also fit into the role very well: he looked like a creep with his big eyes with an unnatural color, slicked-back hairstyle and physique; I imagined him like this
@krook: it seems to me that this makes sense, it is symbolic that this is not someone famous, that the viewer does not know him and does not associate him with anything, because Metatron behind all his "smoke and mirrors" is such a wizard of Oz, in fact just a person who accidentally got to power, his the essential content is unimportant, anyone could be in his place.
This, by the way, rhymes with the way the Ruler was casually disembodied - because he, too, is just such an extra, who accidentally climbed to the very top and blew dust well (I apologize for the pun) in his eyes, and as soon as someone (Metatron) wanted to move him, there was nothing to oppose him.
Tears tears 😭 😭😭 Maurice and Azriel and their daemons. That's what I had to do for my daughter. And I did believe that Maurice betrayed everyone and Lyra, but considering the fact that she told her daemon you know what to do. It's strong
With ghosts, the failure is complete 🤦🏻♀️ why was it inserted at all? No one could destroy them, no one except the keeper of the knife. And Coulter wouldn't have been able to do it anyway
in the book, spirits from the world of the dead fought with Ghosts. There, Joe Parry and Lee were asked to make a second exit into the world of Azriel to protect Lyra and Will from the attack of ghosts so that they could find their daemons.
I don't even understand why Azrael's troops with firearms were needed, why was there a bunker with Azrael's inventions, why was there a kid with a knife? Stupidly, 1 man flew by helicopter, fired lasers, got his bearings and used the crevice for victory, which the angels themselves had drilled into the ground, where he jumped off with his wife and a cat.
@fly_to: even less. At least, Lyra and Will descended into the World of the Dead at the moment when no more than a month had passed since Roger's death, +/-.
It hurts too much! I didn't think I'd be crying straight, but, the last three episodes of the series breaks through such strong emotions! Ruth Wilson is an incredible actress! I've known her since the first season of lovers, and immediately fell in love with her there. In the dark beginnings, it is simply impossible to break away from her, she took all the attention in every scene.
Most of all, it's a shame that Lyra doesn't find out how her parents really loved her (or rather, they loved her). She will remain convinced that her mother is evil and insidious, and her father does not care about her.
So, well, as always, there are a number of questions when a quick climax occurs in the series: 1) Did human soldiers even have any special anti-dust guns? I hope they didn't use ORDINARY rifles against angels and ghosts? 2) In the end, did the parents destroy Metatron, and not the Ruler? like... even if he died in the end anyway (which is not a fact), they don't know about it, they just killed Metatron and didn't even know if they defeated the ruler or not (if I understand correctly, of course) 3) the drama scenes this season are not particularly touching for the soul (tears of course flow in places, but if you remember the tantrums during the deaths in season 1 and 2, 3 with an idea of a large total amount of drama does not touch so much) 4) in the cage that Will opened, who was in the end? An angel, or was it the Ruler? and if it's not him, then where is he? blown up by a cannon? or is he still alive? 5) and what role did Dr. Snake play in the end? what was the essence of her crusade at all, if she only found out about dust problems during the whole season?? (which we already know from the first season) In fact, she did not push Eve on any path of temptation, so what was the point of calling her a Serpent at all and saying that she had a special mission? (probably more is said about this in the books, but in the series there is just an empty story arc absolutely, although this character was very interesting to me in season 2) 6) and how did witches fight with ANGELS in general? if only Azriel's knife and camera/gun could do anything with them at all! and they weren't even given a magic weapon, and at the same time they just made a swoop, With ANGELS, but they would have been wiped out all of them 7) Marisa of course controlled the death eaters, we remember this from season 2, but could she, in one WORD, dissolve them ALL IN the AIR WITHOUT preparation? HOW
@christinapirs: The 2nd point was explained in the series. The victory was not important. It took time for the "fall of Eve", that's all. And in the cube at the end, which was cut by Wil, there was a Ruler. He sort of fell from the sky after the cloud mountain dissipated. And there was an exhausted old man imprisoned. If you think about it a little, it's obvious that Metatron seized power and imprisoned the Ruler. He is a shorter usurper, not a regent.
you haven't watched the series yet)) the next episode will have all the explanations 1 - xs. the book didn't pay much attention to this either. there mostly fought angels, witches, panzerbjerns and souls from the world of the dead 2 - metatron was killed. the fall of metatron gave a lot in order to win. the ruler has not solved anything for a long time, because the answer to question 4 - there was a sharpened old ruler in the cube, who for a long time did not understand what was happening around him due to his relative old age and decrepitude 5 - in the next series 6 - apparently with spells (seraphim also fought off the angel with some kind of slander) 7 - apparently concentrated very well))
@christinapirs: again, I will add a little to @fly_to and @Asspid. 1. On the side of the Ruler, in theory, there were not only angels, there were enough of the same representatives of ordinary people - churchmen and believers. They weren't shown much here, so yes, the cannons look a little strange) But there were maras, for example) 4. There was a Ruler. Whether the Ruler was evil is an open question in the book, it can be said for sure about him that he was a liar (he lied that he was the Ruler). And a being who did not interfere in the affairs of the churchmen, who created game for the glory of his name. Then we draw conclusions, so to speak
I've been waiting for Will to meet Damon for all seasons, but in the end they weren't even introduced normally (I thought they'd break the heart of all Will's fans with a beautiful scene right now, but NO (
Of the unexpected twists this season, I was struck when the dust began to be taken away from mortals, I did not expect it at all (but in the end they did not take it to the end, so whatever at all) But if Marisa REALLY turned out that she would agree to become an angel + so that Lyra's love would be removed from her, it would already be a plot twist, which the world has not seen) for a few seconds I even hoped for it, but alas! good has won)

Incredible emotions🥺🥺🥺
Ruth Wilson how gorgeous she is 🔥🔥🔥
Somehow, with this ruler, the whole epic was reduced to zilch
It's just that only some angels knew about it.
And even among people, especially no one knew.
Azriel thought that his war was with the ruler, and in fact - with the government of Metatron and with faith in the ruler) The grandfather himself had been suffering for a long time and finally found peace when Lyra and Will found him
