It turned out very cheerfully. Just why the original theme from Massive Attack was not used in the credits, here's the question (why a cover from some guy, if it's a wonderful original). We are waiting for a new season or a feature film.
While watching it, it felt like I was watching something from the late 2000s - early 2010s. Since then, the series have managed to grow significantly in quality, pass the peak and reach a dead end, and Luther, like 13 years ago, is chasing pretentious maniacs engaged in, in fact, performative art. It was kind of ridiculous, but at the same time nostalgic.
@Redy: according to subjective feelings, before the coronavirus, in general, mainstream TV series were kept at a stable height. Since then, a significant part began to smell like a neural network smell - the stories began to resemble a student's essay, which someone compiled from 20 others the night before the exam.
@Khrustalev: Well, these are all common phrases. Can you give me some specific examples? Maybe I missed the rush, I didn't watch something good. For me, the peak was just there somewhere. And the most favorite TV shows were even earlier.
Strange. The screenwriter is the same, the director is the same, but there is some kind of similarity at the output. Probably Netflix is to blame. Some kind of cartoon villain from Serkis with a stupid impossible plan, even for an old bond, would look ridiculous. If we had finished the third season, it would have been a cult series. Even 4 and 5 were good. And so... That's fine.
Let's just admire the fact that despite the rather urgent problem of catching a maniac, John still found 40 minutes of time to climb onto the roof of a skyscraper and look into the distance.
well, why did they cancel the ending of the series, if after 10 minutes they still brought Luther to exactly the same place, only by a different road? even the pancake screen from the last series was used, but in a different context. and it only gets worse. They shouldn't have touched it at all.
I'll start with a good one. The visual of the film is good, I liked the way the fight in the prison, the brawl in the square and, of course, the Norwegian landscapes were filmed. Respect to the operator. Idris Elba is charismatic and cool as always. It's also nice that Schenck was given a fairly important role in the plot. As for the rest... The script is bad. Serkis plays a complete psychopath who has an entire corporation that monitors people through gadgets and finds out their secrets for the sake of blackmail. It sounds kind of interesting. But this is weakly and uninterestingly woven into the plot. It was necessary to focus either on this or on broadcasts with murders, otherwise horses and people mixed up, and as a result, both topics were little disclosed. Serkis' hero also personally runs around crime scenes like a fool, fights with the police and special forces. And, most interestingly, he manages to cut men much taller and stronger than himself, some of whom are also armed. It would be better if they revealed him more psychologically, otherwise the film gives the impression that he is just a crazy psycho and that's it. And why did he get attached to Luther? Because he started investigating that kid's disappearance? Luther is a machine. He walked around half a movie with one stab wound, in the end he got another one, and at least henna. Even a fight in icy water doesn't take him. It smelled like 90s action movies lol In general, the script has given me reasons for facepalm many times, starting with Luther's brilliant escape from prison. It would be much more appropriate if at the beginning of the plot he was still under investigation and suspended from work, but at large. At least we could get rid of some of the plot nonsense. In general, I am not at all enthusiastic about the film, but at least it was nice to return to that atmosphere and see John Luther again))
There is a feeling that something completely different was expected from the film, but we got such a plot in the style of 90s bond and a funny gachimuchi remix on the end credits. The only consolation is that Netflix could have been even worse.
