Of all the elves, only Kirdan seemed to me more or less like an elf, an intelligent noble and the oldest, the rest are not like that.

I liked that the story of Sauron was shown at the beginning, Adar's move was sudden.

@gkalian: There is no finesse at all in the local elves. The elf king has dumplings instead of ears, Elrond has a headache, he would like to play a goblin. Even Galadriel has a bitchy expression on her face. I'm only happy with Hobbits and Gandalf

@SimonPastor: First. It's amazing that someone gives a shit about orcs. After all, they can kill each other and eat purely for fun. And then Sauron himself came out to them and began to talk to them as if they were on the same level, although the elves themselves fall to their knees in front of him, that is, the demigod, the supreme angel, and speaks to the orcs. In reality, the kings did not talk to the peasants, although they are of the same species.

Well, as for his strength, it is still worth considering that this is Sauron without a ring. Gandalf is on the same level with him, and he may well be killed by a couple dozen orcs.

Honestly, I didn't watch three episodes (I lied, four) in the first season. That's how I watch TV shows sometimes.
This time she bought into my handsome guy again. his story is just something superbly terrible. Well, Sauron is so good, you can't get enough of it. what a manipulator, just a smart-ass monster. all the scenes with him are a thrill. I looked at Adar's face and thought, dude, do you realize who's in front of you? You realize that, don't you? Well, look how beautifully he sold himself to you.

@fb1273958: Um, I'm notifying you that if something was missed from the original source, it's never a change, and even more so it's not a mess. There is not a single film adaptation where a part of the text is not skipped. This is a natural process. It simply has never been any other way. So hitting Jackson for VK is not counted. There are always questions about even the best film adaptation, but in this case these are not even close to comparable things with the series, and certainly not in terms of reshaping the lore.

P.S. Tom is in the director's version. Such is the fact that a movie with a literal translation of the text on the screens and a final running time of 5-6 hours would not have hit cinemas anyway). We have to cut out part of it even from the footage, not that from the original text.

@Hidji: anyway, for me it looks like a double standard - we forgive errors to the version of the work that we like and turn a blind eye to deviations from the canon; and at the same time we attack and try to find more inaccuracies in the version that we do not like. Let's honestly not compare the interpretations of the canon and give them the opportunity to be independent works to some extent. The best interpretation of the canon will only be in everyone's head))).

I like both movies and TV series. Each of them has a +/-, and each differs from the canon in its own way. I see the spirit of Tolkien's books in the series as well as in some episodes/parts of the film. And I enjoy watching and reviewing both. And I am very annoyed by the haters in the comments. If you can't see how the ENT is being reshaped, or rather how you see it, then what are you doing here? Do you find pleasure in sadomasochism? :)

Why torture yourself and others? (although there is already a question in the spirit of Tolkien - because this is part of our Orcish nature, and we are like Melkor made/perverted us, or is it still part of human nature and is it our choice to be a troll?)

I mentioned them only on the basis that some of the above-mentioned episodes were cut, but even so the format turned out to be too "uncomplicated" and was cut into a total of three parts for almost three hours. It was said that even in the extended version, not all the footage was included and there was at least an hour left on the shelves. And the lack of parts is not a joke at all, but a sad norm for cinema.

I just finished watching the first episode of the new season. I can say that I definitely liked it. I've read Tolkien's books about the Silmarillion and LOR. I like how the screenwriters give room for reflection on the nature of evil, the difficult choice between salvation now and a vague and unpredictable future later (is this stupidity or wisdom? as Elrond says). All this reminds me of the spirit of Tolkien's philosophical ideas beyond the epic drama.

In addition, I like other additions, such as parallels with the speeches of politicians of our day (Sauron and the orcs). God, what a sweet sarcastic irony! And the stunning images of the horrors of the Dark Resurrection of the undead, which remind me of the battle of Sauron and Luthien in the First Epoch. I like the role of Kirdan and the connection with the wisdom of the Valar through craft and the art of life (I think the episode when he wanted to throw rings into the sea was related to Ulmo). And a song on the High King's quenya. For me, all this is connected with Tolkien's vision. And I am satisfied with such interpretations of the canon.

How do I understand that Poppy and Nori are female interpretations of Frodo and Sam? In any case, their actions bring a little light and humor to this gathering darkness.

Overall, I am touched and see that the new season has become more believable and more thoughtful.

The series still has the same disadvantages in the form of logical inconsistencies, empty characters, and terrible dialogues. It hurts to listen to elves, you constantly want to rewind them, their speech seems to be written by a neural network. Words speak, but there is no meaning.
The characters are such that half of them can be swapped, and nothing will change.
There are a lot of moments that just knock out the narrative with their strangeness. For example, the prince of the dwarves works in a mine and gets calluses, although in the first season he could swing a pickaxe for hours without any effect. Why does the prince's wife go shopping and save on dill, even though they are still rich and still dine in the royal dining room.

But they still did work on the errors. The series has become much better. In fact, they did what needed to be done in the first season. They can almost be said to have returned to the first season, all the characters were placed in the places where they were, only they made them more correct.

We look further.

Yeah, everything fell into place. Sauron, this is the ouroboros experiment from Resident Evil. Umbrella got here too.... (I'm talking about his true form in the form of a ball of worms, if anything)). Yes, the best campaign speech is - You are pathetic and most of you will die. But we will build a new order on your blood. Who wants a cookie? I'm a handsome man.

I've only read the Hobbit from books so far, watched both the Jackson trilogy and the second trilogy on the Hobbit, well, the first season of this series + a bunch of games. But I missed the most important thing - I didn't read the Silmarillion and the Lord of the Rings. As a result, it is not very clear to me what the trick of the rings is. That is, according to the Jackson trilogy, it is clear that they give some kind of power, and at the same time subordinate to the will of the bearer of the main ring. Plus, the main thing also makes you invisible to everyone, but instantly highlights for Sauron. But what kind of powers do they give? Why did the tree bloom again? Like, visualization - they wanted this, and it happened? Or does it only work for a specific tree?How are they going to use these rings and what can they do with them, other than become puppets?

@Agarey: it depends on which rings we are talking about. The elves helped the elves resist the Shadow as it grew, preserve their lands and protect the people. Because of this, Lorien was so beautiful and withered when the power of the rings went over the sea. The Elven rings do not obey the one. The rings of the dwarves helped them in their business: to extract gems and rare metals, such as mithril. The Dwarves were persistent and Sauron could not subdue them. But since he influenced the dwarf rings, they brought trouble to their owners. For example, the balrog or Smaug was largely attracted by the power of the rings. People are not so persistent, they were easily enslaved by Sauron. Most likely, the people of the ring were given prosperity for their lands and helped to win military victories.

Stunningly. Adventures, sublimity, gods and demigods, good and evil, songs, thousands of years of history, inhuman beauties and characters, as if really from another world - the most maximum high fantasy, as it turns out I missed it all. I love this series.
And what a right decision, in my opinion, to tell in the format of the series about the rest of the rings. It's always been a little confusing that we read/watch the Lord of the Rings, but the story there revolves only around one ring. Now, for me, everything loops beautifully with the main trilogy.

@msev: in "blacks" and "homosexuals", obviously. Just like you in "sneakers" and "Wakandans". The question is not in relation to the series, but in relation to people. I was also stunned by the racial diversity in this series, even at the stages of the first trailers. Crazy crazy dark-skinned elves. As noted above, this is a race within a race. People have Caucasians, Mongoloids, Negroes. Tolkien has elves, humans, dwarves, and so on. Combining the real world with fantasy, and even shifting the racial division of people to mythical species, is cringe-worthy and pointless. What's next? Is the dragon Asian? A black Firebird? But all this does not negate the fact that people of any race are human. For some reason, in all the messages above, blacks are blacks, sneakers, Wakandans, who also need to get used to, etc., and whites are just whites. Just like all Asians, we have "cross-eyed" and "jackichans" and so on. So then let's also call white people, especially straight people, somehow sarcastically stereotypical. Let's all be white-assed now. Or is it simpler - "roly"?) Why not

@fb1273958: Elves are generally a northern race, for that matter. They all came out of the Waters of Awakening. And in those days, when Arda was not yet a ball. They don't have a color range like humans, I'm not even sure if there are tanned elves, not that dark or black). And yes, Tolkien wrote about it. And almost all the characters from the human races are from the northern latitudes of Arda, for I do not recall any of them who were from the lands south of Gondor and east of Dane. Middle-Earth in the form that we know specifically from the map is generally an analogue of Europe. Well, where can Negroes come from in the Hebrew area? There is not even anyone from Harad here, because they are evil and aggressive towards the Northerners. And this is the local version of the Turks.

@PianoOnTheLake: perhaps, separately, Blacks and Wakandans are not offensive (although here, again, is it worth saying that it is not offensive for the people about whom it is said?). But the question of context is important. When one commentator puts the words "Indians", "blacks" and "homosexuals" in a row, clearly indicating his position on equating racial minorities with sexual ones, and another writes "Wakandans" with appropriate expressions persons" (relevant for whom? As if a hint at the faces of representatives of the tribal system untouched by intelligence) is already a bell

"whites are just whites" - let's call white Americans "corn brothers", it sounds fine too 😉
"Let's all be white-assed now "#34;. Or more simply - roly-poly"?)" - Why not, because "white" for hundreds of years, they have built a civilized world and are not particularly complex because of nicknames. The simplest example: 1. And what the hell is it necessary to throw slights and insults? Of course, all this can be brought out in humor. Just like two friends can call each other motherfuckers, and it won't be considered insults. But if a leftist person tells you that on the street.... And I can be wrong, I can be wrong. I'm just expressing my opinion. My initial comment was on the question - what is wrong with the first commentator in this thread. He responded to this by equating some minorities with others with a clear negative connotation. Yes, and the corresponding facial expressions still raise questions for me.

@-Эдуард-: You translate the word fair skin quite arbitrarily, it can be translated as fair skin or a light shade. And this light shade can be olive or brown or even black. Tolkien does not explicitly say anywhere that elves were either uniquely black or uniquely white. And then any interpretation is possible. Including yours, which, I assume, is based on xenophobic expectations and prejudices. Which, in turn, contradicts the philosophy and worldview of Tolkien, who in his books respected the personality of a person, his diversity and the desire to support each other, and not this "divide by skin color and rule."

It is precisely this attitude that prevails in the domestic public - it does not surprise me. Sad, but expected.

The Negroid race, according to Soviet and modern Russian anthropology, is distinguished by the following anthropological features:

1. dark skin (most pigmented in comparison with other races, including Australoid and Melanesian);
2. Curly black hair;
3. the dark color of the iris of the eyes;
4. poor development of the tertiary hairline, especially on the body;
5. dolichocranic high-arched skull shape with a pronounced occipital region, in general, the size of the skull in Negroids is less than in Caucasians and Mongoloids;
6. short face, small cheekbones;
7. medium-high forehead with poorly developed brow ridges;
8. prognathism, suggesting protruding jaws, the lower jaw is devoid of a chin protrusion;
9. Wide eye slit;
10. wide flat slightly protruding nose;
11. thick lips, the upper lip protrudes forward (protruding);
12. large teeth;
13. dolichomorphic (elongated) physique;
14. Narrow hands and feet.

and it's a pity that this is not the Adar of the first season, he was so sticky, I stopped breathing in scenes with him.

And the elves? For a second, I thought that the king was going to spit savorily at the name of Sauron. And those fingers of his, all in gold, were just rukal. as if these servants dressed up as gentlemen, put on wigs and smeared faces, absolutely no dignity and grace.
