s01e10 — The Executioners

A series that relies solely on Javier Bardem's performance - his Cady outshines everyone. The atmosphere and visual are great, but the script sometimes sags, and by the middle of the season you start to notice how the story is stomping on the spot. Nevertheless, it is an excellent choice for fans of psychological thrillers.

It all started out more or less well, but then the level of delirium gradually increased. The finale turned out to be some kind of category B thrash. Overall, it's a pretty mediocre series that even Bardem and the rest of the star cast can't save.

What nonsense in the end

I didn't watch the movie. But it seems to me that this story in the format of a movie just works more strongly. What I would like to note is the performance of the actors, so they gave 120%, I just watched and got high.

If according to the plot, Max turned out to be right, they imprisoned an innocent man and made him what he became - a devil. To some extent, they also paid for their suffering.

Well, I can say that Scorsese and Spielberg are not always a guarantee of quality.

How I admired all the previous episodes, and how disappointed the ending was. No sharp turns, just Max Cady, who can't be killed with a knife or a nail. Moreover, each new attempt to kill him infuriated him more and more.
But most of all, the happy family in the end is annoying. They've ruined a man's life, are indirectly involved in several inhumane murders, but they're quietly eating burgers in the backyard of their mansion. So much for the moral, guys.

The way the Simpsons parody made more sense than it does here. In general, the dumbest twist of the series is that he really turned out to be innocent, he didn't even rape his sister in the end. For me, the main idea of the original is that he was guilty in any case, and the lawyers simply hid the evidence to mitigate the sentence, but he did not cease to be guilty, that is, he was always a sadist and prison only made him worse, but here...

An ambiguous impression of the series. It seemed interesting to watch, but the stupidity of the family was off the charts. If the series had been reduced to 6-8 episodes, then nothing would have been lost.
From the very beginning, I thought that Max was responsible for his wife's death, in the end it turned out the opposite, but in any case, he killed other people, even after an unfair sentence. A normal person without a craving for violence would never have tortured or killed with such composure, so the character is not very good anyway. It is impossible to offend an adequate person so that he becomes a murderer.

As if Max's children from half the female cast weren't enough, now the blonde journalist has decided to confess her love to him right on TV. That's Max's talent for charming...

This is not the kind of novel that a TV series should be made out of. There's too little action, even though they added a lot of crap to fill 10 episodes. It's beautiful, the acting is great.

I don't know how close the ending of the book is, but it seemed muddy and merged to me.
Somehow, too quickly, Max, from a treacherous, expectant predator-manipulator, turned into just a furious, reckless maniac. Somehow I missed this moment. Well, as if when it became convenient for the scriptwriters to show him to not so smart strategists, they just made him dumber. And all his rage came out.

I mean, he had so many kids that he didn't fucking need. He killed his sister, his father, and eventually his "desired" son. It's not revenge, it's guilt. They left him alive to spend his whole life fighting. Well, in general, I liked it, except for the crazy kids. It's nice to look at Bordem, he's so big and a teddy bear with claws and teeth. I love Patrick Wilson, but it's like in this movie, if he had been replaced by another actor, it could have been better or even the same.

Somehow it doesn't fit. This guy with the scar was his son and no one knew it. Was there no autopsy 17 years ago? How was he judged? Did no one know that the victim's stomach had been slit open and the child was missing?

The swamp is stagnant for half the season, the second half got a little excited and in the final they took a shit.

I watched Javier Bordem's performance with attention and anxiety. In my opinion, he surpassed De Niro in this role. Thanks in large part to his charisma, the series kept me on my toes.

Why did my son open the fucking window? I thought Max would catch up with them on the way, but no, for some reason they decided to arrange this scene in the house. Max, who is not killed by the law of the genre, but now they have almost drowned him in the pool, now let's get him out and put him in jail and we will turn around again for the rest of our lives. Some nonsense came out, it's a pity that Scorsese lost his grip.

Well, what can I say... I even liked the beginning, but then the further it goes, the sadder it gets. I didn't even watch the last 3 episodes ongoing and waited for everyone so as not to suffer. No, the actors' performance is beyond praise, especially Bardem was pleased. Tsvetokor is good, and in general, camerawork. But damn, these Antoshkin fairy tales were really freezing, how much worse the plot is than the previous film adaptations. They didn't seem to have been changed directly beyond recognition, but each innovation only worsened this impression as the story progressed.

At first, I was even impressed - it visually reminded me of the films of the golden era of Miramax. But with each new episode, there were QUESTIONS.

First, the composer is painting some kind of infernal nightmare of Satan, the orchestra is screeching like it's about to be shot, and nothing is happening on the screen. Why?

Secondly, I don't understand anything about shooting at all, but are these Dutch angles and sharp camera hits on objects something from Leslie Nielsen movies? I was especially amused by the scene from the final episode, when Cady jumps from the roof onto the son of the family.

Third, one often hears that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is Javier Bardem for the poor. So here Javier Bardem seems to be performing a vile parody of Negan. Because of the stupid lenses, it intuitively seemed to me that Max Cady would turn out to be a reptilian in the finale, but the creators are too cowardly for that.

Fourth, the chemistry between the main characters is zero, and Amy Adams, at 67, looks like a bag of squash caviar. Well, according to the level of engagement on the screen, it is clear that in the process she realized that Scorsese and Spielberg had written her into some kind of checkmark.

Fifth: I still didn't understand why everyone was following Max Cady's wishes. Well, my son's brain was flooded with a mixture of pills and acid - a sinful explanation for any screenwriter, but let it be, and what about the rest? Why did the woman shoot herself twice in the beginning? Why was his sister rubbing against him like a March cat? He's shown to be a devilish manipulator in name only, but in the entire series, I don't remember a single scene in which he would do something really tricky.

Sixth, it seems that American streaming is gradually turning into a financial scheme. I can't explain otherwise why this is not a 90-minute tolerable film, but a 10-episode, stuffy and valueless second remake of the book adaptation. Apparently it was more expensive to make the series, that's why they gave the light.

Total: this is not the first time that Apple has generously invested in production and actors, and hired screenwriters for change.

I subscribe to most of the comments. Disappointment. I expected to see a complex psychological thriller. But I got something incomprehensible with an indistinct narration. The outright sadness began when these endless family discussions began: "she's my daughter," "no, she's not your daughter," "he's your son," and so on. I don't understand why it was all here at all. Morality is also extremely questionable. The family put an innocent (as I understand it) guy in jail, where he went nuts. And all because the lawyer's wife was afraid of revealing that his daughter could potentially be his?? And then, having planted him once more (but this time on business), everyone sits quietly at a family picnic with burgers as if nothing had happened? It's funny what to say. In general, you expect much more from such big names in the ranks of the creators.

I watched it once a week and with each new episode I wanted to drop it more and more. It's just some kind of incoherent nonsense that I absolutely don't want to understand. with such names in the creators and such a custom to make such a pass, yeah.

The first half was relatively good. I even liked the theme that the villain is not really a villain, but maybe a victim. But by the end, everything is in mush and makes little sense. The ending, in my opinion, came out weak, but a straight ending with intrigue is quite, quite.
