If the scene in the hospital in episode 4 started as something scary and scary, but ended with a hug. The scene with the confessions in prison was exactly the opposite. Thanks to Richard for the emotional roller coaster.

I wanted to believe until the end that there would be a happy ending, but alas, alas.

I will send Richard a claim for moral damages, because I watched it and I feel as bad as I've never felt from history)))

I just don't have the words and I do not know where to put myself. Days will pass, these emotions will subside, of course, but it seems that this pain for Niall and Ruben is now forever with me.

I know that this story just didn't have another ending, I assumed how it would end from the first episode, but it doesn't make it any less scary and painful to think "death is the only way out for them," because it's a very scary and dangerous conclusion.

PS: And if you want to maximize your emotions, I recommend listening to Ethel Cain — Inbred immediately after the episode, hysteria and a broken heart are guaranteed.

A great series! First of all, as a drama, of course, but it also definitely works as a thriller: it keeps you in suspense on some scenes to the fullest.
At the same time, I don't feel like I've seen this many times before. We can say that this is a breath of fresh air, at least in the serial world. One hundred percent one of the best new products in the last couple of years! Shot and played brilliantly. The themes of toxic masculinity, traumas that do not disappear anywhere, very non-trivial, confusing and destructive relationships between two "brothers" are revealed very well!
After watching it, such an unusual feeling arises, which is even difficult to express in words. I'll write one word anyway: delight! Gadda needs to be filmed more often, because he does it perfectly.

To be honest, I'm disappointed with the ending. Not because she's bad, but because she killed Niall. It's clear that he's a fool and an idiot and he's to blame for his problems and that others have suffered because of him, but it seemed to me that after the second meeting with Alby, he reformed and finally reconciled with himself. And in the end he died at his own wedding...

And how did Ruben end up killing himself? I don't like understatement.

The series is good, of course, but the finale was completely devastating, I haven't felt such emotions in a long time.

At the same time, there are a lot of good comedy scenes in the series. The Doctor Who joke is alive, thanks Richard.

In general, I hope Gadd's next series will be a sitcom, enough of these psychological dramas.

When Niall's mother gave him a knife, he asked if the blade would reach the ventricle. It's like a hint to us.

And I can't imagine any other ending for the series. Would anyone get a happy ending when they caused so much pain not only to each other, but also to others? This is the only logical end for them, as mentioned above. And they hate each other. And at the same time, they can't live without each other.

I'm glad that Ruben found the strength to admit what his father did to him.

He thinks that if Niall hadn't told him about Mona and his son, they would have lived happily ever after. But all the secrets become clear.

The emotions, of course, were the brightest during the viewing. Bravo.

Gadd's a fucking genius.

Damn, there's so much pain and suffering because of one cowardly bastard. If he had pulled himself together once and confessed his orientation to his brother, how many problems and deaths could have been avoided!... I am by no means justifying the aggressor Ruben, but the quiet Niall is even worse.

The prison scene is incredibly emotional!! They seem to be laughing, but you have an uncontrollable fear inside, because you know what's going to happen now, you just don't know at what exact moment. And this heaviness of the unknown is boring into the soul...

Overall, I think the series is decent. Richard Gadd should get some kind of reward for it.

Well, Richard Gadd, in the words of Ruby's character: "Do you know who was the most important homophobe in your life? it's you who" said the most important point, your main enemy in life is yourself. And while soy babies cry that no one understands them, that the environment makes them "victims", in fact, people just don't care about them, especially when you are already an adult, long past puberty. The ending turned out to be extremely cool, leaving questions, and an opportunity to think about the essence of being, so to speak. I haven't seen such works for a long time since the TV series "this is England".

And of course, bravo to the actors, the young Ruby played by Stuart Campbell is great, Jamie Bell is simply gorgeous, I've adored him since the movie Teleport, an extremely multifaceted and strong actor, and I think no one would have played the role of an adult bambi better, and of course Richard Gadd, a grown-up Ruby, Redneck's appearance, emotions It was amazing, I've never seen it before, and it's a discovery for me. And considering that he is also a screenwriter, I really hope that he will be given the green light to create more TV series, he is very cool at this.

p.s. and of course I was glad to piss people off with my opinion under the previous issues, it's a pity I won't see you again)
On the stage in prison, it was simply impossible to hold back... 💔😭

Both are hostages of their own traumas, and their bond is both salvation and prison, how much pain there is in every word! And after all, both seem to want to fix something, but they are so confused about their injuries that they can no longer make out... Richard Gadd plays in such a way that you believe his every breath. Tin, how catchy it is.

I still don't understand why Albie let Niall back into his life.

Well, I mean, I understand the general vibe of the series, that our Niall is the kind of sweet kid who gets away with a lot, but Albie seems to have to see right through him. Back at university, he was quite a wise and pragmatic young man, and over the years.

As if Albie should understand that in front of him is a coward and a pathetic loser + didn't he have PTSD and an instinct for self-preservation when he decided to become related to Niall and indirectly to Ruben, who disfigured him for life?

This topic seems to be undisclosed.

@juliomexica: Alby is the brightest character in this whole story, with an open soul and a big heart, and I think he really was in love or loved Niall and was willing to put up with the flaws, even years later. One of his phrases, said when watching the movie together: “We can go at your pace. Even if it means going backwards,” it actually says a lot about his attitude towards Niall.…

@apollo_2001: Imho, the screenwriter picked up a bunch of cliches and hyperbolized them to the maximum: gay, writer, strange mother, mandatory childhood violence of an adult sadist who now cannot have children, pregnancy the first time of all, drugs, wedding, universal hatred and therefore like love, and so on. This kind of creative display is just not my thing. The actor playing Niall is undeniably talented.

I liked the series. Even more than a "Fawn". The cast is cool, everything is based on acting and emotionality. I hope that all the guys will be noted. I really liked the cast for the younger years of the characters, they played super.
There are certain flaws here, in my opinion, and a certain hyperbolization to enhance the drama, but that's the genre. Nevertheless, the project turned out to be of high quality, for me it is one of the memorable series for 2026 for sure.
Richard Gadd somehow knows how to create the right tension and emotional intensity, revealing difficult topics and internal conflicts, I would like to see more of his projects)
The last episode ended the story well, some scenes were heartbreaking. It seemed to me quite literary and poetic.

I thought about localization and translation of the name. In my opinion, "half-man" also reflects the idea of the series quite well: Niall's and Ruben's masculinity was so abusive that it ruined their whole lives, brought them to the very bottom and ironically took away all the courage and dignity that could have been. And in the end, they turned out to be worthy of each other, which is also "two halves of one whole."
I also like that Gadd does not stretch his series over several seasons, but makes certain statements.

@g1821826: Albie probably has lifeguard syndrome too, like Ava, Niall's ex. I saw Niall as a confused poor thing who needed to be pulled out of the darkness. Moreover, Niall's feelings about accepting his orientation are well understood by him — he went through this himself in his youth + mentioned that he himself had experience with chemical therapy.sex and promiscuous relationships.

So it often happens in life that even worthless, pathetic individuals have their own lover.

The main feature of this series is a deep psychological study of almost all the characters, which in the end we are all not without sin, as it happens in life. Well, Niall's fall is simply enchanting, because even at the moment of supreme frankness, when Ruben finally opened up about why he is the way he is, he still decided to reveal this terrible secret about his relationship with Mona (ecstasy or not, but for some reason it feels like it was intentional). Nothing justifies Ruben's atrocities, but everything could have been avoided if Niall had said IT THROUGH HIS MOUTH. This seemingly simple turn hits you right in the gut. The evolution of Bambi into a real DEER in the worst possible way.

I also understand the formula of the name, as Niall and Ruben are the same half-human. They form a single whole together, which cannot have a successful outcome. This internal breakdown will always lead to tragedy for both of them, even if they know how to do it right.

The only thing is, I would have revealed more about the story with Alby, because all these adventures of Niall in the hot spots of debauchery are already a little cliche for me on this topic, and they took up a lot of time.

Overall, this is one of the best drama projects in recent years. Gadd is a great guy. Thank you for this emotional attraction!

Why Niall slept with Ruben's wife will also be understood by anyone, a man who has been suffering from a gay crisis all his life suddenly feels attracted to a woman, well, anyone got into his shoes, given that he was fucking TREATED for homosexuality in the 21st century!!! everything is natural, there are no good ones here, these brothers are worth each other. I've never seen anything more anti-gay in my life. Both main characters are homosexuals in denial with different coping strategies, but one thing unites them - they are scum and degenerates without a single positive feature, who, like black holes, destroy everything and everyone nearby before finally causing even more damage.

For more than a decade, pop culture has been telling us about various deviants, trying to convince us that this is all a kind of norm, these are good guys. Something like a teen subculture, but not based on music, but based on sexual preferences. You just have to not be blinded and meet them halfway.

Then Richard Gadd came and took us behind the scenes of all this prettier Moscow under Sobyanin. And there's a natural Silent Hill, where people are boiled alive in soot-covered cauldrons and cockroaches the size of humans crawl on the ceiling. Every element of the series, every line is imbued with so much shame and self-loathing, which I have not seen since the album The Downward Spiral by the vocal and instrumental ensemble Nine Inch Nails. All this was already slightly visible in the Deer, but then they decided to press down to the last drop of pus, not sparing the audience.

The series lacks a lot of dynamics, but there hasn't been such a session of new sincerity for a long time.

there were no expectations. I haven't seen a Fawn.I didn't know Richard Gadd.
in the beginning, I thought that they would show us the story of the "sworn" brothers and how they gradually come closer despite the difference inside and out, and in their mature lives, the final fight with beating faces will take place. blood, sweat, and the final forgiveness of some grievances.
but already in the middle of the first episode, I felt like I was being pushed into a washing machine. and there I tumbled and struggled for six hours.
and the most interesting thing is that I like to recommend TV series to my friends. But I don't want this one. because the selfish part has turned on and I want to set aside the half-trap only for myself.

A story worthy of Shakespeare's pen. The confrontation of light and darkness. The godlike Ruben and the ever—cowardly creeping bastard Neil are like a tempting serpent, the personification of debauchery and the fall. Finally, all these evil spirits have been brought to light. And they showed by the example of Ruben how hard life is for the working people. For someone who doesn't have brothers, this is probably a novelty, but the enmity itself is well shown. And the gay theme seems to be superfluous. Well, let it be, where can it be without her.

I feel sorry for Ruben to the point of tears: I couldn't put anything but my fists against this world — I paid for everything in full. But the really nasty character is this Albie. He was so honest and proper, and if he had been able to keep his mouth shut, then the brothers' lives would have turned out differently.
I really liked episodes 2 and 3, and then the series went to the bottom. Half of the important events are skipped — they just talk about them in the style of "but do you remember you went crazy and did stuff?", "yes, I remember." A bunch of just crazy moments: starting from the wild screams in the hospital in episode 4, which no one came to, ending with the fact that chela was punched in the face many times with a heel and he survived simply because he had to justify that Ruben was not given a life sentence and he was able to get out of jail just in time for his brother's wedding. 🤯

Neither one nor the other evokes sympathy. Just a fight of piss and shit. Ruben's excuse of "my dad raped me and my body responded" is also a cannon. Not only is it immediately obvious, but it's also not clear how this should justify the fact that he almost killed two people and did a lot of other stuff.
These are the main issues and claims. And so, of course, the shooting style is a bit strange, and the wrinkled actors playing schoolchildren, and the sudden change of some 30-year-olds to others who have nothing to do with the first ones at all, and the spontaneous flashes of bitsuh from Gadd... in general, after the finale there was nothing at all good to remember about this the series.

The fawn, of course, was 10 heads taller than this opus.

It's a good series. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone
At the heart of this relentless conflict lies a love story
After the conversation in prison and the last scene, I need to go out for a smoke...🚬

"In a way, I've never been this close to anyone" - just bear with me on this, my heart cracked with grief, anger and sympathy. When in response, Niall, in the eyes of Niall, who was in love with Ruben in his youth and carried it in a certain way through his whole life, realized that he, Niall, would definitely never be able to move this from the first place, a breakdown that could not be repaired was doomed to misfortune.

We place bets on how many awards he will collect

What is called "it didn't work out, it didn't work out." Circumstances and injuries broke them down and they could not find themselves.
One, who was not put in anything in his life and his personal boundaries were permanently violated, could not accept himself and develop his authenticity to the last, lived almost his whole life as a bastard with the deepest shame inside.
The second one, having got it into his head that sexual abuse by his father is a "loss of masculinity" and, in the best traditions of stereotypical toxic masculinity, it must be returned at any cost, actually did it by the sweat of his brow, not realizing who he was and what he really wants and what he really does. Plus problems with emotional regulation. Plus, no one helped him in his life, no one at all. No one said that there was nothing wrong with him, that it wasn't his fault, that it didn't make him worse, that it didn't make him "less of a man." No one helped me live it, process it, reflect on it.
At least Niall had three people who could get him out (Alby, Joanna, Ava). Ruben didn't have anyone. And you sympathize with him more: for the main betrayal of his life, that his father turned out to be like this, he could not take revenge, so he took revenge as harshly as possible for the subsequent ones (such a transfer), so harshly that he killed perhaps the only person he really loved (after all, he only opened up to him).
And if Niall lived in hell, then Ruben lived in a double hell - not only could he not take revenge on his father by "breaking the circle," but it turned out that the person he trusted the most would not let him do it.

They had a decade without each other to sort themselves out and decide what they still want - they failed

- Where do you feel it?
- I feel it everywhere. It sort of runs through me in a way. It's the only thing I've ever felt. It's like I'm fucking high off you or something
...🚬

As they say, "with you, I can't do anything without you." Sick love, codependency, and that's it. The injuries attracted each other in order to destroy each other in this attraction.

I'm thrilled with Richard - how he can transform the events of his life into high-class art: write, play, choose such actors and say, "look, I understand how what happened to me could have broken me, but I coped." My soul aches and at the same time I am happy for the people who are coping.
I will definitely follow his further path.

For all the heavy drama, there are quite a few purely British comedy inserts.

I liked the last interaction with Mona for three: how Niall eventually took Ruben for himself, showing Mona that he would even die at his hands just to be with him. It perfectly echoes their first scene for three.

And I liked how Alby kept himself to the maximum.
