Parental love can be more destructive than hate. Kosei's mother loved him and expressed her feelings, doing her best to make him an impeccable pianist, and she saw this as the highest good for her son. Love made her go to extremes, not cruelty.

@Kuroko: And besides, the tumor she had and the constant courses of chemotherapy were affecting her mind.

@OlTokar: maybe, but in her case, it's more of a character trait. Impulsivity and short temper are not uncommon for creative people, but it takes a lot of patience to teach someone something - being a musician is one thing, teaching music is quite another (those who studied at a music school or mastered a musical instrument through private lessons will understand what I mean), especially at a professional level. It's just that Kosei's mother didn't have enough patience, but it's understandable - who could have known when her allotted time would expire? Her goal - to provide her son with a decent future - clouded her eyes, and the proximity of death led to despair.

@Kuroko: I understand all this, but after all, the deformation of personality during illness cannot be ignored either.)

@OlTokar: no one is arguing with this. There are a number of different reasons for this - the disease not only deformed the personality, but also to some extent aggravated the maternal instinct (she defended the interests of her child, albeit by cruel methods), all this is equally important. In general, this series is so thoughtful that it is possible to discuss its individual moments and aspects for a very long time... This is the special charm of such anime.

What kind of maternal love is there? YES, SHE BEAT HIM WITH A STICK UNTIL HE BLED IN FRONT OF PEOPLE for an improperly performed passage, in her opinion, for an excerpt filled with the longing and love of a son who endured her cruelty and wanted to cure his mother with his music.
I do not believe that the mother's cruelty was caused by a character deformity due to a serious illness, and even more so by her desire to ensure a decent future for her son, it's about her vanity, self-esteem, if you will, and this was clearly stated in the series, she wanted her son to achieve what she could not achieve. By myself. Damn it, there's a limit to everything, and Mother has overstepped the mark!
My heart sinks every time I see Kosei in despair, and this wild grin of the ghost of the mother in the boy's mind, and this episode and the episode with the mother's outburst of rage after the contest brought me to tears.
I have all. I feel better.

@BenedictRim: I recommend watching the series to the end first. Perhaps your opinion will change somewhat. Kosei's mother is an ambiguous character, her actions are really shocking, but nevertheless it is very important to understand the character's motivation. Yes, the desire to make her son a great pianist who will not disappear even after her mother's death and will be able to provide a decent life does not justify her, she has crossed the line, but you point out her main motive is self-love, and this is not true - I repeat, first watch the series to the end and pay attention to what Kosei's mother is She had been there before, as well as the thoughts that haunted her on her deathbed.

@Kuroko: I'll definitely watch it, because the story won't let go, thank you)
but I'm commenting on this particular episode, and I didn't see a drop of maternal love in it, no love justifies tears, blood, and bruises.
After the next episode, I see her in a different way, with a baby in her arms, where she calls him her treasure, but in this episode ... Alas, I do not understand her behavior (((

@BenedictRim: it reminds me of a state of passion. In a state of severe mental shock, a person is sometimes unable to control himself. Insanity (or rather obsession and the madness that followed it) should also not be ruled out.

@Kuroko: I almost watched the anime,
but under another series I wrote that I was wrong about Kosei's mother, I just wrote a comment on emotions right after the series, so...

I don't care about such parents, and childhood is lost in principle, Kosei is lucky that he somehow found friends, in real life such people are mostly without friends even, so the personality is completely deformed, and the fact that he blames himself for what he said to his mother, although it was absolutely deserved after all her selfishness and manipulation... The horror(

and I don't like this line with a bunch of pills at the Knee and with "dropped again.".(this is not good..

how I cried at the moment when my mother beat Arima.. I read the comments that say that there is no need to build prejudices about the mother, and it is worth watching the anime to the end. but I believe that beating children cannot be justified in ANY way. You can't hit anyone, it's not okay. by the same logic, you can justify a rapist, like, "well, he has a complicated life and it couldn't be any other way." even if his mother has experienced some kind of childhood trauma or something, this does not give her any moral right to beat her child. I don't think that further plot twists in the anime will make me change my mind.🧚🏻♀️

@Marharet: I fully subscribe, even if her character is revealed further and forced to empathize with her - this does not justify in any way how she acted with her son.

There are no words, I held back so as not to cry. after Kosei's words "I want you to die," and then his speech after her death... The tears started anyway

Making your own dreams come true in children is at least wrong, especially in such a cruel way. After all, a child is not a machine, not a robot, he should have a childhood and support from his parents, and not constant words about how insignificant and stupid he is.
Arima's mom's manipulations about getting better from his game are terrible... instead of getting closer to her son in the last moments of her life, she continued to put pressure on him, moving even further away if there was somewhere to move away already at that moment.
I do not consider the manifestation of such feelings to be maternal love, it is difficult to justify such behavior. maybe unknowingly, Arima's mother damaged his psyche, which affects the boy's life even after her death... It's worth thinking about this situation. Not many people recover from such things, and some live with such childhood traumas until the very end.

Thanks for the delicious glass.
The visual effects on the images of the mother and on the inner state of the main character are certainly gorgeous. It gives you goosebumps and you feel the same as the hero.
