Katie, despite her curiosity and love of eavesdropping on the boss's conversations, is the soul of the office and you can easily see that everyone treats her with respect and a certain confidence in her decency. In general, it is, for many years she was like that, until personal despair pushed her to do a stupid thing. And even after that, even though she was doing even more stupid things, she was trying to do the right thing. Her story is the strongest so far. Precisely because she is a very good person, a good mother and wife, and it was very difficult for her to commit adultery. It was a difficult decision, a lot of thinking and half a year of preparation. I'm not excusing her, it was selfish, especially her excuses that she was doing it "for them." It's just hard to understand the situation until you get into it yourself. Her lies and desperation may have some meaning.
