It's worth a look just for the sake of a few scenes that shed light on Dale's fate after the end of the second season, nothing more. Two hours of water and gloom.
The big disadvantage of the film is that it does not really develop according to the canons of the genre, there are no typical ties, the main part and the alignment. Not even like that: they kind of are (Teresa Banks was killed -- Coop says that the killer will kill more -- we have the last days of Laura -- Laura's murder), but the denouement is known to everyone who undertakes to watch the movie (otherwise imho it's better not to watch it), so it turns out that the whole FWWM is a Lynch-style creep, trash, confusion and all that sort of thing. In the series, it is compensated by cliffhangers and the intricacy of the plot, here the crypt comes to the fore. It makes me uneasy.
But the film provides an answer to some of the questions that arise when watching the series. Although... maybe my "insight" is wrong. And yet...
I think "Twin Peaks" should not be taken literally, not because it is surreal, mystical or something else. Tautology, but the "secret meaning" is spoken by the "secret language"... This idea is suggested by the beginning of the film, "the daughter of my mother's sister." Mental images, metaphors, allegories... reality should be interpreted as dreams.
And then there's the story of Laura's tragedy. It seemed why it should be interesting to watch, knowing the denouement, but that's the beauty of watching the tragedy of dying, Laura's monstrous discoveries, her inconsistency. This is payback for the fact that she was not in the series, consider it. So much attention to her and her inner world. there was a place for other favorite inhabitants of Twin Peaks, and even a few events after the last episode of the second season.
The prequel is the perfect form for this story, some characters are still happy, and in some scenes you can see in their eyes an understanding of what lies ahead of them after a couple of months. Brilliant, damn it.!
fooled by the three o'clock version is not divine at all. there is only one author's version - fire follow me - with all the pros and cons, misunderstandings and some plotlines that have not been brought to mind. and there are additional materials. not included, provided on some kind of divi reissue. and purely by the fan, you can watch it. there are a couple of important scenes there - the same smile-Laura's grin. but it's impossible to say that the full fan version is exactly what Lynch planned to do.
My God, another warning, isn't it funny yourself??
Cheryl Lee is unreal, it's worth watching this movie just for the sake of her amazing game, she opened up to the fullest. All the screams, all the tantrums, all the empty looks and languishing sexuality, a kind of hostess... Wow, that's good, Laura Palmer.
I was very glad to see Moira Kelly, although I don't like recasts. Maybe if she had originally played Donna, then the heroine wouldn't have infuriated me so much. It's nice that both Moira and Cheryl will play ten years after the film the mothers of the main characters of "One Tree Hill". Just like the girlfriends of the offspring got married, And Laura always tried to save her friend from her fate, it touches.
James is finally a herring. Ah, the girl ran away into the forest at night, why go after her.
I really liked the recursion with the picture in Laura's dream. And the whole move is that time goes differently in the Black Wigwam, and that's why Cooper is sending her messages from the future... It's a great idea.
What a powerful scene with Laura's murder, Leland's last stand- "don't make me"-and as a result, a terrible thing happens. The flashing light perfectly conveyed the atmosphere.
Bowie and McLachlan are unfairly few. I am sad that there were no favorite Horns, and in particular Audrey. Bobby turns out to be even more crazy.
Probably, because I read the book, everything that was happening was not so interesting to me, because these turns were already familiar. Objectively, these two hours perfectly reveal the motives of many heroes, and first of all Laura, showing how hard it was for her to fight Bob in a world where everyone wants something from her. Subjectively, I am also sometimes bored, for two seasons I have never caught this awkward Lynch style, where the pauses between scenes and the ridiculous actions of the characters can last for ten minutes, and never lead to anything.
And here it feels like Lynch was just offended by the producers who did not renew the series, and decided to leave the story cut off on principle (as far as I know, the last episode of the second season should not have been the last episode of the series, it seems like he and Frost believed in the best). It is clear that now there is a third season, but not all the actors and the audience have lived up to it.
It's like in "Sherlock" at the end of each season: the current mystery is solved, relationships are getting better, everything seems to be settled, and then the deceased Mariarti / someone else appears in the last frames - and that's it, everyone will go on looking) Now, if the second season or the movie ended with those episodes that end the cut scenes, I would have been satisfied, I would think of something for the rest:)
And the backstory is still a relative gift, when you were shown in the finale that half of the characters did not die, or something else)

Что импонировало мне в предыдущих сезонах, так это то, что все знают, что зло - это зло, и не нужно показывать всю кровь, грязь и насилие. А тут смотришь и становится очень не по себе.
Плюс непонятно, зачем знакомить нас с новыми героями, если весь остальной фильм про них совершенно забывают.
I) кто-то очень умный и утонченный эстетствующий искусствовед в самом деле вообразил, что:
1) снимать:
а) (очень) крупные планы морды лица;
б) неаппетитную жратву;
в) кокаинум;
2) накладывать на картинку:
а) "проблемное" (мигающее) освещение;
б) эффект молнии;
в) "шумовой" переход.
3) играть со звуком в плане:
а) повторяющихся мелодий из сериала;
б) криков, смешанных с гудками, сигналами, хлопками, громом и т.д., возведенных до уровня неслушабельного шума
4) заставлять добрую часть актёров играть мразоту, погань и бестолочь, доводя ИГРУ до ГРОТЕСКА
может быть круто? Нет, нет, нет, НЕТТТТТТТТ, НЕТТТТТТТТТТТТТ, ЭТО ДЕРЬМО, ЭТО ДЕРЬМО ДЕРЬМА. Это параша, позор, стыдоба!!!
Кричащую и рыдающую, вечно зарёванную, совершенно неадекватную и непредсказуемую, буквально сумасшедшую и невменяемую Лору; такого же отца; Донну в качестве банного листа; Джеймса, который выполняет функцию козла, который мешает нам жить; Бобби, засунутого, мягко говоря, не туда (самый отвратительный второстепенный персонаж фильма -- на сценах с ним меня натурально мутило). Кажется, в один момент господин некто искусствовед предложил: "А давайте просто ОРАТЬ???????????? орать круто ;----)", -- и все такие фыдафалуц да уууууу орёМММ)
САМОЕ ГЛАВНОЕ -- фильм НЕ ПУГАЕТ!!!!!!!! вообще. он раздражает, он очень сильно действует на нервы, он провоцирует дать в рожу крикуну, но он не "делать тебя бояться".
Хотелось бы больше Дейла, но ведь это история Лоры... многое проясняется, интересно видеть как на самом деле происходило то, что наши герои расследовали в сериале.
Жаль Лору.
Единственное не поняла, к чему этот новый пропавший агент ФБР. Странный персонаж, непонятно зачем. Но может он будет играть роль в 3 сезоне, я ещё не смотрела, не знаю. Но надеюсь найти объяснение этому персонажу.
Если вы сможете найти цельную, пятичасовую версию, где фильм собран, как было задумано, смотрите её.
Если не готовы смотреть пять часов, вполне вероятно, что вы останетесь недовольны только этой подачей истории. Вырезанные и полные сцены более душевные, показывают отношения персонажей более глубоко и от них веет атмосферой сериала, на отсутствие которой жалуются в укороченной версии. Плюс, хитрый Линч вырезал из Fire Walk With Me вопросы, с которыми было бы понятнее смотреть ответы. И чуточку больше Боуи увидеть сможете. Если любите персонажей сериала и хотите вернуться к ним — вырезанные сцены для вас. А ещё они помогают понять если не всю, то хотя бы большую часть задумки с Lodge и мотивацией в поведении Лоры.
Советовала бы посмотреть только The Missing Pieces, но без основного сюжета вряд ли поймёте в чём сюжет. Если не захотите смотреть или не выдержите Fire Walk With Me, посмотрите последние сцены из The Missing Pieces — они немного дополняют концовку второго сезона, слегка разруливая клиффхэнгер, но при этом и немного больше заряжая аудиторию своим исходом. В полных сценах ещё больше отсылок к сериалу и семья Палмеров больше на семью похожей становится.
Кратко и опять же без спойлеров у меня отзыв такой:
После отдельно просмотренного Fire Walk With Me можно застрять в состоянии What the fuck и даже немного разочароваться. Не все готовы смотреть на рейтинговые сцены, которые заслужили фильму 18+. Атмосфера очень подавляющая, когда не разбавлена сценами с другими жителями Твин Пикса.
Но The Missing Pieces залечивают почти все раны и ставят многие вещи (и метафоры) на свои места.
Я не пожалела, что решила посмотреть всё. Но буду советовать друзьям задуматься, готовы ли они к просмотру довольно тяжёлого фильма после 2 сезонов с той концовкой, что мы видели.
Обрадовало появление Дэвида Боуи в одной из ролей 😍😍
Мне вот Джеймс здесь ещё больше разонравился, как был странный, так ничего и не изменилось. Как бросал своих девушек в беде, так и уезжает в туман до сих пор.
А вот Бобби жаль. Лора его юзала только ради наркотиков.
И лорины чувства можно понять, она боялась за донну и джеймса, что изза нее может что-то случиться с ними плохого.
Мне также остались непонятны многие вещи, но Твин Пикс смотрят явно не для понимания.
Актриса в роли Донны понравилась больше чем та, которая была в сериале. Более невинная что ли. Контраст между ней и Лорой заметен особенно.
P.s. Вопреки мнению многих, Боб меня не пугает совсем. Просто какой то мужик в джинсах, а вот Лора да, настоящий ужас. Особенно для тех, кто любил ее. Если любили...
