I liked it very much. The only drawback of the series that I see is that in order to fully appreciate the elegant moves of Colombo, you need to strain your brains. And I somehow got out of the habit today
I love the phrase at the beginning of each episode "Peter Falk as Columbo" and the voice itself, which is voiced. Such nostalgia at once! A cool series!
A very cool series in the sense that usually the caps are always different from the whole series and not very interesting. And here at once in the format and everything is designed in the same style. After all, we are watching the first series now, having already watched others, and the first series was very interesting to watch - especially the young Falk.))
I decided to get acquainted with the series and the cult personality of Colombo from the fool, because everything I knew about him before was unforgivably little. If anyone knows, I only knew about him a joke from Black's Bookstore, when Bernard convinced Fran that at a party last night (which he did not remember), he did not show "Popombo" to those present. : D And I can safely say that this pilot is one of the best pilots of the series in principle. He is perfectly balanced, has a terrific character in stock, the magnificent aesthetics of the time epoch surrounding him at that time, is very thorough in terms of details, but does not overdo it (I was pleased with the moment with the glove on the phone at the very beginning) does not forget to make fun of his main character and in general has an ingenious psychological move in its essence. I mean plotting in the spirit of "Crime and Punishment" - first we find out "how it was done", and then we watch to see if Columbo finds out all this. I remember Dostoevsky's it hooked me on almost the whole book, the pages just flew. If the series can continue to maintain such a level of intrigue and interest in the process, it will be the best detective of all time, so I see. Well, I do not know what is wrong with me, but Columbo himself is very beautiful, and not just due to his appearance, but due to the radiance of his personality. When he put pressure on Joan and screamed, I was impressed, you know. An unrealistically curious character.
@bluebellaza: the first season has been watched, the flight is great! (I'll try without spoilers) There are a lot of nuances in Falk's game that are very fascinating to look at. In addition, in series 9, he was allowed to direct the episode himself, and it turned out very, very well. In addition, this series is dominated not only by the interaction of Columbo with, let's say, the defendants in the case, but also manage to slightly reveal to us the image of our beloved lieutenant. It is amazing that one does not overlap the other and an amazing balance has been achieved. Well, according to my impressions, the scene in the found car is generally pure delight, since not a word is said in it, but nevertheless we observe the logic of Columbo's reflections and generate a joint conclusion ourselves. Och cool. And yes, Peter Falk is still as charming as possible. In principle, I don't have any special worries about plots - with such a main actor, sometimes you can close your eyes to mistakes (which I didn't look for anyway lol), I'm just afraid that they can slightly strengthen this typical mask of his behavior - a little awkward and simple-minded behavior in order not to look threatening and somehow weighty - and make it a character trait. I hope that this will not happen and the creators will remember how beautiful Colombo is at the moments when this mask on the contrary falls off and we see an unrealistically experienced and hungry for success - in asserting the truth - a police lieutenant <3
What a great start! Separately, I want to highlight Falk's acting, he is so cool here. Such an almost unremarkable policeman walks around and manages to deceive criminals) It is very cool! I also like the color here, namely the film on which the series was filmed, apparently it was Kodachrome 65, the shades are fantastic. Some of it is still shot on studio film, this can be seen by the characteristic blue shades in the shadows. Excellent work and with light, everything is very competently shot and causes only great impressions! I really liked this series, so I will continue to watch. In the late 90s, I remember how my father and I watched this series. True, I don't quite remember what the series and seasons were, but I definitely remembered Lieutenant Columbo by his style of dress, his characteristic manners and the ability to solve cases :D
@Captain_Phasma: Wow, it sounds like something in operator. Is it possible to read about all this film somewhere (or maybe it would be cool from you to see an article on the topic "watching film" in Colombo). It's just that this is my favorite episode of the series and therefore forgive my impudence :D I can only try to distinguish where there was a re-sounding, and where there was a recording from nature, it's difficult for me to understand colors, but if it concerns Colombo, then you can try hd
@bluebellaza: :D I'm actually interested in cinema in terms of color, camera placement, etc. The same close-ups when the cameras are at the same level of the heroes' heads and create the effect of some kind of rivalry (in complex fight scenes) or vice versa in the same romantic films, most often show the closeness of the heroes in feelings. Ie, all this can be noticed if you look closely, it's not so difficult)
As for the color: The color in Colombo is his thing. I assume that, most likely, either a Kodachrome film was used, it could be a film of something numbered from 40 to 65, or it was a Kodak Vision specially released for cinema. Why and let's say the color and light in the daytime scenes of Colombo look very good, an expensive film with low sensitivity and with further refinement. In the conditions of the scenery, a blue shade is noticeable in the shadows, which may indicate the use of Kodak Vision special film for lighting in the studio. Usually, when shooting in pavilions, this was used, because the lighting had too much variation in the warm shade, so thanks to this film, this effect was extinguished and therefore the picture looked more neutral) This is in short. Although I'm not saying exactly what it is. 2)https://alexkunztaipei.com/index.php/2017/03/23/using-kodak-vision3-250d-as-photographic-film-my-experience-and-opinion/
@Captain_Phasma: and you still think about such a text focus about Colombo. It seems to me that even in an English-speaking environment they didn't look at him from this angle - you risk getting into history) I can even try to arrange a publication for you in one VK community dedicated to the hd series, so think about it! :D A very interesting observation! Since childhood, I didn't have the best eyesight, now it's better, which is probably why I'm not used to paying too much attention to visual information. Just pay more attention to the sound. And it can be quite difficult to switch yourself, to persuade you to look at the picture.
Thank you very much for the links, very, very curious! The frame with the houses can be compared with the view of the villa of the killer in the third series. I could swear that the color rendering is very similar.

Интересно что вторая серия вышла через 3 года после пилота.
