@pollybeth: In my opinion, the opposite is true. She is a customer, she clearly knows that she wants a super pizza, and the baker is trying to dodge, although he has already accepted the order and money.

I usually agree with your comments about Lorelai, she also often infuriates me with her selfishness and integrity. But in this episode, she was right. It is clear that Emily is afraid of losing Friday dinners, but she very clearly held on to the power over Lorelai that her debt gave her, and Lorelai, knowing her, naturally wanted to pay off and was in her right to do so. She asked a perfectly natural question: Would she really prefer such dinners at gunpoint to voluntary visits, albeit more rare? Knowing Emily and seeing her reaction to the repayment of the debt - yes, I would prefer, and it's terrible, such are the relationships in the family. For three years she has kept Lorelai and Rory on a financial leash, and I am glad that they are finally free
