The series is definitely worth watching... in English. In short, the series as a whole failed in Japan, so the studio allowed American translators to do essentially anything (provided that the general storyline and the names of the characters are preserved). And that's why the English dubbing turned this anime from a dull children's type of horror into one of the funniest comedies that I personally have seen in my life.
